 Jesus thats crazy, well done though. The wheels looked quite good, nice finish on them.

Why would you do that, just seems a really stupid unnecessary risk?

You could put the paper and cloths on something else and then hold that at a distance.

All of this health and safety bs gets on my nerves a bit but sorry this is just stupidity.

No different to working a lathe or using a bench grinder, just on a bigger scale.

Looks perfectly sensible assuming you have a brain.

I never put my bare hands near a moving lathe. I use a chisel, cutter or an otherwise appropriate tool for the job. The reason i do this is because flesh is mushy and makes a right mess if it's put in the wrong place. It's a pain to clean up when you've got back from the hospital by which time it's usually dried up and even harder to get off.

That guy is utterly stupid and WILL lose a finger if he does that once too often. It's a totally unecessary risk and probably saves only 30 minuites per wheel.

i thought about that

i mean everybody uses belt sanders but nobody says anything, and thats just the same sort of risk !

and thats before we get into band saws etc..

Could never do that. I have this strange urge to do silly things like "stick a screwdriver in there, see if it stops the spinning thing, ARGH crap it's chucked it out and it's stuck in my knee"

Spining bits of metal are too much to resist. :(
