Vista SP1 on Technet and MSDN

Anyone know the procedure to update to this from the last release candidate? Is it all automatic or do you have to uninstall and re-install?

It may be on the technet site but haven't been able to sign in there today.

Cheers

Has anyone on here installed the SP1 from a torrent site? Im a bit worried installing a SP from a torrent site!

the files are digitally signed which means they are tamper proof. i downloaded my copy on the 30th jan - at the time i had no idea if it was RTM or not. turns out it was. :p

Thanks marc. I will do an install and post how it went (and if I notice any difference!)

make sure you check it has the digital signature first - i wouldn't be surprised if there are some files out there without them. just right click the file, properties, digital signatures.....

You could still install a digitally signed release candidate however so that doesn't really help much.

depends on the date. i guess i should have mentioned that.... :p

the last release candidate was dated sometime in decemeber. the real RTM was dated 19th jan. and just to confuse issues, the files from oem/msdn/whatever might even have a later date although the files inside are apparently identical. basically anything from 19th jan onwards is good.

Is there any chance of someone mirroring this somewhere or uploading it to a torrent for those of us that don't have Technet Plus subscriptions :(

Just installed the SP1 on the 32 bit version of Vista Premium. At least it shows that I have 4.00 GB of Ram installed now instead of 3.25 GB. The GUI and API seem smoother and less interrupt from ACPI to correct the floww of information from the CPU. And of all things no problems with 4 sticks of Ram installed unlike the 0x0000007E blue screen error I was expecting.
I wonder if it will be as smooth on a slipstreamed version of Vista. I will try it at the end of the month when MSDN releases the slipstreamed versions. I have yet to try it out on my 64 bit version of the O/S. But all is good so far.

it's been on the torrents for weeks now. but we can't link for obvious reasons. the main sp1 thread got closed because of the repeated requests/links given out.....
