Huge Let Downs

SWG, cancelled my internet sub after it was ruined by the CU. It's all I really used the internet for.

Also, SOF3, HUUUUGE SOF2 fan played it since release up till now really.

Nevewinter Nights II.

Gorgeous character & environment graphics, but... hideous inventory graphics, clunky modelling, irritating cut scenes, aggravating character voices, nonsensical party system, and a criminally outdated "area-based" environment (unlike DS II or WoW, which has a true 3D environment).

Having played and loved all three of the original NWN series, I was hopelessly let down by NWN II. They had the opportunity to fix all the silly things from NWN, but chose to keep them in and add a few more.

We have a winner, unfortunately.

The original game ranks in one of my most played games of all time, on line was immense, the only online game i've ever taken too.

I couldn't wait for NWN2, played it and got to the very end and it kept crashing on me. Was let down all the way through, the reasons you mention and some more.

But my ray of light was hoping after a few patches it would click and the on line community would thrive. Over a year later and there's apparently 1 or 2 half decent servers to play on, and thats it.

Gutting.

Others for me, Doom3, lost its character.

COD4 - Great game, so short, completed in a day taking my time, that's tragic.

ever been so dissapointed with a game that it has put them off gaming for good?

No.

The closest thing I suppose would be Quake 3 Arena, that put me off the idea of trying new multiplayer FPS. I pretty much realised after that that I would never find anything to match Quakeworld.

Sure, there have been some other major letdowns in terms of games not living up to my expectations (Daikatana, Black&White, Brothers in Arms:TRTH30...), but nothing that could significantly diminish my interest in gaming. At the end of the day gaming is about more than just waiting for the 'The Next Big Thing'(TM), it's also about enjoying what we already have.

It's a phrase I've used before, but it still holds true: Even if no more games were released this year, I'd still not be bored of gaming, as there's so many fantastic titles from down the years I have yet to play.

Star Wars Force Commander- Utterly dreadful. Gfx & gameplay just dire. Waste of resource and took Lucasarts years to make it as it kept getting delayed and redesigned.

Halo - Supposed to come out on the PC in 2000 and 3DFX were even promoting it on their boxes then MS bought the company and it came out in 2003 by which time it was 3 years out of date and looked horrible with gameplay & bland gfx.

Test Drive Unlimited- Bad port. Performance really poor (even on an X6800 + 7800GTX512) Gfx average at best and lengthly loading times plus gameplay which takes you out of the driving. Hate this game so much as it promised a lot got delayed for ages then came out with a lot of issues.

Star Wars Battlefront2- Bland gfx, repetitive gameplay. So similar to the first one it could have been a fan made mod and should have been a free download not a full price game.

SIN Episodes- Dreadful story ideas, very poor gfx, waste of the Valve engine and waste of HD space. 10 years out of date.

Oh dear - I forgot NWN2!

I take back my previous post in this thread, NWN2 was easily the biggest let down in my gaming life. Me and the missus play a lot of RPG's together and NWN was one of our favorites. We couldn't wait to get our hands on NWN2. After a few hours playing it we uninstalled and kicked ourselves for buying two copies of the damn thing  Trying to play in co-op was pretty much impossible because it was so badly thought out and implemented. The camera was enough to drive you to suicide. The game-world was terrible and felt like a bunch of totally detached levels stuck together. The graphics were uninspiring and ran like poop. Bad, bad, bad

Daikatana

and of course the unbelievably sh*te NWN2 - uninstalled after about 25 mins and threw it in the bin.

oh and Stalker. Terrible terrible terrible in every conceivable way

Im really surprised by all the people let down by stalker! I thought it was quite a good game!

The worst let down for me has to be Deus Ex 2, although an ok game in its own right it just did no justice to the original, in fact i dont think i've had any faith in sequels since.

Stalker was good but a let down from its original concept, same with Fable. Deus Ex 2 is good in its own right, but a disgrace in the sequel to the best game ever sense.
