haha i thought this thread would be about something homo like detailing your valve caps. its a lot better than i expected. Handbags at dawn anyone? lol

Snip massively OTT rant

I've not suggested he needs to spend his life being totally anal about tyres. Once a month a quick check takes a couple of minutes thats all. I honestly don't know why you think its such a big deal.

I know you love to bring life circumstances into everything as if it gives you some sort of moral highground but frankly it's utterly irrelevent - it takes less time than washing the car! I'm not saying he should get down and give his car a complete Pre MOT check on a weekly basis, merely that its prudent to have a quick nose at the tyres every now and then.

It just seemed a bit odd that a guy who is passionate about his car, and owns a hardcore Integra with carbon bonnet, £1600 Brembo's, etc etc - ie probably the most driver focused car on this forum this side of the Lotus Elise crowd didnt check his tyres. It's not like it's his commuting Polo or whatever that he doesnt care about.

I honestly can't see the big deal with that

Of course this will be lost in all the hysteria from everyone else who seem to think posting a load of irrelevent hypocritical patronising crap over such a trivial issue is in some way an 'owning', especially as half of the people who have cheered and jeered would have no sympathy if someone came on here moaning he just got 6 points for a tyre offence.

BTW I only mentioned what I did last year as a comeback to the high-horse opinion that working 5 days a week is something I wouldnt understand and exhonerates you from checking your car is road legal :p

I genuinelly wonder how many people would either have just ignored the post or perhaps even agreed with the sentiment if it wasnt that it was me that posted it..

Thats the problem with the internet - there is NO 'tone' to posts. They are words and you can interpret them in different ways and perceive different tones depending on the image of the poster you've built up in your mind. Thats probably why Drexel didn't go off on one like you did despite the post being aimed at him, he knows what I'm like and he knows what I meant and didnt take it as a 'toffee nosed sneer' or whatever the hell it was you thought. There is no room for 'sneering' from me to his Integra - it's far more interesting than anything I've owned or will own from a drivers perspective and one of his front calipers is worth more than every wheel and tyre on my car.

I should imagine (and hope :D) it will be staying a different colour to the body. Can't paint CF, it's sacrilege I tells ya!

I'd rather have a standard bonnet than a carbon fibre one, which makes little difference to the way the car drives, looks rubbish, especially when maintained, and costs money.

OMG IT'S GOT CARBON FIBRE YOU MUST BE AN F1 DRIVER.

it's amost as bad as "carbon fibre" trim inside cars.

I disagree, I think it looks good. And it's real carbon fibre, not "carbon fibre look" like most interior trim bits are.

It lowers the centre of mavity through reduced weight. Most of the cars you see it on are laughable and it serves little or no purpose, but you've got to admit, it's in the right place on this car. It's got all the right little details which say 'This car means business, please go back to Halfords' to your average kev.

yes, but I don't see it being that massively differnt in weight, if it is, then okay, fair enough.

I do agree there, but I still don't think that it's necessary or justifyable.

Does anyone know the difference in weights of the two bonnets? Or anyone who's driven one with a steel bonnet and one with a carbon fibre one, that's what matters more than numbers.

Solid brass door knockers aren't necessary or justifiable but people still bolt them to their front door. What is is you don't like? The fact that the colour is different? The look of carbon fibre? Or the just the fact that it's carbon fibre, a material traditionally used in racing applied to a road car?

Just interested :)

I don't think it looks right having a panel a different colour to all the others, and I think that it's been done for the image of having carbon fibre.

If it's been done because the car is used as a track tool, and it makes a noticeable difference, then that's justifyable.

Fair enough :) I think an anpainted carbon bonnet looks wicked myself so that's where our opinions differ :D Particularly on a white car, just looks "right" IMO.

To be fair to you Fox, that is pretty much as I read it.

I can see how it can be read differently though, and thankyou Gaijin for taking the time to write that post and 'fighting my corner' :)

Anyway back on topic, talking about the Brembos here's another pic I took yesterday, Got Clearance? :D

It's tight in there ;)

I don't Fox. YOU do, which is the problem here.

He's only had the car for what? Two months at best? And it's been sat at powerstation for a good chunk of that.

Indeed it does, but groping his tyres every weekend just on the incling that this could happen is a waste of time, and is simply not practical. Reaching under my car, I can feel (and not see) about a quarter of the tyre at best due to the drop. I will check every time I jack the car up (Every couple of months) But if you are asking me if i'm specifically going to go out in this weather to give my tyres a good molesting, I'm not, simple as.

As for the moral high ground. Thats stupidly rich coming from you. No one posts in such a pretentious, condescending manner as you do.

I'm not different from you Fox in circumstance. I went to uni too whilst living at home. But I don't profess to go on at people like you do. I accept that people have different lifestyles and circumstances and take that into consideration before I post.

I do not consider myself worldly at 24, but I am willing to open my mind to different situations and choices and not restrict myself to tunnel vision all the time.

You seem very preoccupied with these brakes. The fact of the matter is that DreXel didn't pay for them, Jedifragger did. Aside from the bits and pieces been done after, Drexel just paid a lump sum and got the car after.

I'll add again that he hasn't had the car long and has a family. I've not got the experience of having a family but I'd take a guess that free time is a premium.

I'll leave Drexel to clarify as to whether the wear was major but it was just probably bad enough to finish the tyres off.

Why do you think people are reacting like this Fox?

As for discounting my take on things as " irrelevent hypocritical patronising crap" and "Snip massively OTT rant" just goes more to show that your mind is so closed that whilst when anyone has any grief with your posts, you are "merely expressing your opinion, it's a discussion forum FFS", you cannot accept my opinion as anything coherent.

Which is 90% of your problem.

Also, you'd have to **** a copper off with your attitude to get points for tyres these days, do you really think a copper is going to get down on all fours to check the tyres on a lowered car unless he has to?

Why is that Fox? Why is that?

Why do people victimise you?

Perhaps its because you dish it out all the time and can't take a bit of grief when it comes back your way.

But there IS. People don't draw opinions of others out of thin air. Just face it Fox, the way you word your posts winds people up. You are rude and condescending and you know you are. Yet you don't care and don't do anything about it. So you will get one of these confrontations every now and again when someone gets sick of your ****.

Or perhaps that he just knows where this ends. It will just go on and on in a tit for tat manner until one side gets bored. And that, I can guarantee, will be me.

I can see how it can be read differently though, and thankyou Gaijin for taking the time to write that post and 'fighting my corner' :)

With all respect DreXel, as much as I like your taste in cars and the content of your posts, I didn't post any of that to fight your corner. I was just posting what I felt.

For those who have agreed with me in my posts, don't jump on my bandwagon, this is not why I have posted this. I am just speaking my mind. If you have something to say, don't sit on it - be a man and get it off your chest.

The car was actually pretty much as-is when Si bought it too, it was the previous owner to Si that had all the wok done.

I'll add again that he hasn't had the car long and has a family. I've not got the experience of having a family but I'd take a guess that free time is a premium.

Bang on the money, spare time is most definately at a premium.

The wear was literally just on the inside edges, the parts of the tyre that are visable when just casually looking had plenty of tread. Indeed, I actually got pulled by the police the night before the MOT (just a routine stop) and despite having a good look round the car they didn't even notice the tyres. Didn't mention the tints either actually ;)

Some of what you say I disagree with and find completely irrelevent. I've no idea why this forum has an obsession with circumstances and lifestyle - it has no place in half the threads it gets brought up in and certainly no place in a thread about tyres. I'm not sure how whether you are anything from a Dole Inhabitant to Chairman of ICI should impede your ability to make sure your tyres are legal. ESPECIALLY if your car is a toy and your hobby.

However, a lot of what you say is true. I have a tendancy to focus on specific things and get carried away, often to the detriment of the thread in question or the issues at hand. What I will say is that almost always my intentions are good natured, even if the implementation can be less than...

We've had a few of these little 'issues' over the last few years in this forum. One of them led to me making a post saying I'd change my posting style but suprisingly received 3 pages of people saying how they'd rather I didn't. So you can imagine the mixed messages being a bit of an issue.

I do, however (And this is going to seem pretty hypocritical coming from me) feel people take the internet WAY too seriously and often forget that what people post is simply words on a screen which can be ignored, laughed at, or refuted with fact.

I didn't get the reg. It caught my eye because I don't ever see any silver 5 series with the same bodykit as yours, they almost always have the 'less sporty' looking bumpers and stuff.

Don't think so. What reg was it? I've seen an 02 plate one around Plymouth a few times.

oooh, so Hunders followed the wrong car and nicked the wrong wheels?
