OcUK Trackday Date - Feb 10 or 17?

Just got back, an awesome day, was nice to meet new and old faces.

The car will need new front discs and pads doh! the drive back was a bit interesting with pretty much no pad material on the pads :o

Hopefully the Seat won't cost too much to put right :(

Anyone get some photos of my car apart from the pirorette? :p

Neil.

Few moments i think we had a hit of squeel at turn in, but apart from that nothing, they also seemed to hold on well and didn't go off mid session, on the last time out i was looking at the DSC light in the middle of the dash and it hardly came on, thats how the system should be, like you say if you mess up really bad you've got something to back you up however the odds of it coming into play and messing with your lap is small since it seems to allow a good amount of slip or driver correction before doing anything.

From what i've seen the CSL doesn't seem to be a car you can grab by the scruf of the neck and chuck it around, it seems to favor the more progressive driving style and it seemed to reward everytime!

Take that slide, under braking the back came loose, slid out you caught it and it just kept slipping at the same angle till all came back into shape without the computer doing anything, thats the true sign of a fantastic car imho.

You deffo made the right choice on the last laps, but mind saying that with the computer coming into play almost never the main point thats going to catch you out is when you power out of the corner?

Hi m8

When DSC is fully on, its awful and with it on properly would not have been able to drive round at all because in normal DSC mode which other BWM's use it would be forever on on a track day and when it comes on it saps the power a lot more than track mode.

The reason the DSC kept coming on out of that corner was mainly because of the 2nd-3rd up change it happens on the road as well because its such an aggressive change the system holds it back a bit, with DSC off you don't get that and in all honesty think it would have been fine everytime if it was off there as it would not have caused a slide we'd have just got out the corner quicker.

For me the main attraction of the track mode is the rear braking assist which does make a difference under hard braking, when DSC is completely off you no longer get braking assist in the rear, so its very good at keeping the car balanced under hard braking.

Still like you say it was hardly kicking in and it certainly did not spoil the day or really effect lap times and afterall its a safety net should I have needed it for whatever reason. :)

Looked like a cracking day, CSL sounded great as did the VTECs surprising how well the red intergra was keeping up with the CSL on the straights.

Car is back, still won't even try and crank, certainly isn't looking good :(

O dear, first thing I would do is drain the oil and see if there is any metal in it !

Could be the oil level sensor if it has one, heard of a Mk5 Golf that cut out and wouldn't start as it thought there was no oil in it as the sensor was faulty. Not sure if the 1.8T may work the same way.

The computer may well have been trying to stop that slide right at the beginning if you're cornering under braking - the CBC (which I'm certain the CSL has) will operate to balance brake load in a way to try and prevent oversteer. It's pretty hard to do anything fast in a CSL without a computer of some kind doing something :p

Can you turn the engine over by hand using a socket on the crank?

Just had a quick chat with him and after some searching on the internet it looks like the camblet has lost some teath and some valves have hit.

He is going to take it apart tomorrow and look for signs of this, all signs say topend atm, it was my first guess and i hope its correct, least its not a full rebuild!

Yea you said about the rear braking, last thing you want is a front end slide situation and the back starts coming around, still good amount of driver control without too much nanny electronics, very impressed :)

Would that stop the car turning over though? I hope it's nothing serious.

I've downloaded the video but i'm waiting 'til i've got sound before I watch it. Hopefully i'll be able to participate in the next one, i've promised myself a couple of track days this year.

LJ can fill us in on that one, but my 1.8T has a cam possition sensor on the intake cam, if it knows somethings not right it won't let you do anything at a guess, also if the valves have hit and bent something that would stop it from moving, wouldn't even turn over when pushed in gear!

Nice shots Vertigo1... I have pretty much convinced myself that I physically need a 70-200 F4 (without the IS though) now. It's been on the cards for a long time. Just got to work out who I need to rob to fund the damn thing!! :p

I know someone.. He messes around with 205 GTi's and loves moonstone blue ( Baby blue as he calls it ) ;)

You know you really want the 70-200 f/2.8 IS L ;)

That, plus a 2x teleconverter will be my next purchase.
