About the youtube thread...

It needs one person to do anything about it. Me, or any of the other admins/mods.

Well if you think a single person has all the answers then yes. But generally admin problems require discussion and problem-solving amongst several people.

The Youtube thread is going to be deleted soon anyway. It is completely unmanageable.

That's exactly why a new system is needed though. A stricter thread would be a good start, but I don't think it's a solution.

You're addressing him ;)

Then what is your solution? Do you have one or would you like us to generate one for you? I don't think I'm following what you're asking.

Never expected it to. But just out of interest, why is this place so allergic to them?

Not particularly allergic. In fact, not at all. If there was a valid point raised and put forward to the mod team requesting a sub forum for something then it would be discussed and the merits and disadvantages of doing so would be voiced.

When unworkable requests are received (or posted on the forum) they aren't discussed, generally because I know the answer is no. There is no value in a Youtube subforum. Equally there is likely no moderator would want to mod it.

create a new you tube thread and delete the thread when it reaches 50 posts, no one can post {comment on the previous video} in the thread if they have not got a you tube post to share of their own , this way we can know that when the thread reaches 50 posts , it means that 50 you tube videos have been shared.

this makes it efficient, orderly , tidy.

Nope, I don't have a solution any more than anyone else here does, but I thought that if people could voice their opinions on it we could find one between us. Community spirit at it's best. ;)

Although on a serious note, a small hack to force people to enter a meaningful description of their links doesn't seem too unrealistic? Although a new thread with more 'shouting at people who don't' might also work, as you suggested.

I'm afraid any hacks whatsoever are a no-no. The reason for this is very simple; security.

Isn

A sub-forum is the obvious solution, although I don't see that happening here any time soon. But I think something needs to be changed.

interesting option, obviously a free for all in GD with a thread for each vid is a non starter

oops just seen Gilly say that is a non starter :)

Interested in modding it? :D

If modding it consisted of just deleting rubbish, then it shouldn't be too time consuming? I think if it had its own sub-forum, there'd be less posted, as less people would probably venture into it. I'm sure I wouldn't.

What do you class as rubbish? I class the entire thing as rubbish and would prefer to put a link to Youtube in the GD sticky and delete everything posted. However, that would be too hard a line for the vast majority of GD goers.

Fair enough then, it looks like a tightening of the rules could be the only realistic improvement, if no hacks allowed and no saintly mods are on hand to volunteer.

Simple rule: If you post a vid DESCRIBE IT.

I class the entire thing as rubbish, which is annoying when I keep getting subscribed to it. I don't mind links to YouTube that are relevant to a particular thread, but a constant list of people going "look at this" seems pointless.

Or just ban youtube links. 99% of them are rubbish, if you want to watch people be idiots to your local shops and watch the 14 year olds on a Friday night

I couldn't agree more, but take it away from the people and they will complain.

Not that I can't put up with that, but if there's a genuine idea that can be put in place that isn't to the detriment of the forums already in place then I'm all ears.
