OcUK Trackday Date - Feb 10 or 17?

Looked like an awesome day, gutted for the LCR, the shots where it was moving it looked sweet. As mentioned CSL sounded sweet, but so did that EK9. Would be interested in the next one but only as a passenger of course!

Its pretty certain that its the bottom end that has had some kind of failure now, its certainly nothing to do with the top end, the cambelt, the cam chain, or the valves, or the gearbox.

Big up to firestar and gibbo for giving me a hand tonight in shifting it off the road and help with the diagnostics!

Last ditch attempt at a simple repair is see if vag-com has locked the engine down and thus needs a reset, but the chances are slim to none :(

Chin up dude, like i've been telling you even if i have to go through hell and high ******* water we are going to get this thing fixed and it is going to work, i couldn't give a **** how long i have to spend with you on it or how much effort it take, so don't think you have to go through this alone, cause you don't :)

Besides i've got two sledge hammers back home and an axe that could come in handy :p

Stop fannying about and whip that sump off.

I wanna see some bent rods and melted pistons ;)

So, the oil light came on and that was it? The car just cut out?

*Hopefully* it's some kind of protection circuit then!

I've got a can of petrol and some matches, would you like to borrow them? ;)

On a more serious note though, sorry to hear about that :( hope it isn't too expensive to fix :)

Damn, sounds a funny problem with the Leon

Please slap me if I'm being stupid, but would disconnecting the battery and leaving overnight wipe out any faults that are stored ?

First thing Adam said we should do, did nothing.

Engine is locked, now its either fault code starter locked or its bent something locked or run out of oil locked.

Tis the next task, if its the lockdown to stop damage, thats great, otherwise piston locked in bore or spun cap sound like the next things.

Fingers crossed on the engine lockdown :)

No nasty noises from the engine , It just died ?

Sorry to ask sooo many questions, it just interests me :)

As far as el said there were do signs of any problems until the oil light just seconds before the cut out.

I believe adam said on the final lap that el said "ive never found myself egging the car on for more power before" perhaps that was just the track environment though I think, having the space to give the car everything its got!

I don't want to answer everything for him since its his story to tell, but from what El has said coming out of the last corner onto the straight it sounded a little odd, then he backed off then it cut out, but he had come off the power in this time.

Tis oil surge and lack of picking oil up that kills them, mine almost went the same way :(

That was just a general comment about the car and the fact that it didn't have enough of an edge over the slower cars to pull decent amounts away down the straights. I felt that from the first few laps of the day, not just in the session it died.

It was more me wishing it had an extra 100bhp rather than it feeling "down" on its usual power.

Ah ok, i misunderstood adams words then, my bad.

Cheers mate, you've been a big help, even in so much as a bit of a morale boost, its all good :)

Not to worry, there are probably a thousand and one things flying around peoples minds right now, hell, I've still not really come to terms with it.

I'd be absolutely gutted if it happened to me, but do you think that hard driving on the track may have caused it, or could it have happened on the road? I don't know if I could forgive myself for killing my daily driver on a track :(

Summed up by firestar, "tracks kill cars....fact" El wasnt the only casualty but the others were with track motors and not peoples everyday cars.

It "could" have gone on the road, given how I drive B roads, oil starvation could have still happened on a twisty B road. I won't know for sure until I know the actual cause of the cease, but its certainly not something that would have "only" happened on the track.

Higher corner exit speeds would have had a far greater effect than 100bhp.

No, more top end would have had far greater effect, I ran out of puff far too early.

Yeah you have to remember they're just road cars, there was talk amongst us that the sessions were a bit long though.

Difference is with a B road you'll eventually come to a junction and rest the car!
