Dog law change - sign this petition please

However we petition the government to recognise that it is not the breed of a dog that causes it to attack

This is, of course, rubbish. Unless you want me to believe that if a ***** thug owns both a Labrador Retreiver and a Pitbull Terrier and treats them both the same, both will be equally dangerous?s

I've signed up.

Definitely a case of nurtures overruling nature.
However, I think it is more of a human social problem. Certain social-economic classes of people buy certain dogs and do not train them appropriately. Banning these breeds of dogs will maybe stop the headlines, but if the legislation starts spreading to other dog breeds it will be very sad and detrimental. What is likely is that these people will move on to a different breed of dog and mistreat or neglect the training equally.

That is correct.

Equal sizes of dogs can be just as dangerous.

With dog bites recently in the news it is clear that current dangerous dogs laws require tightening up. However we petition the government to recognise that it is not the breed of a dog that causes it to attack but rather its upbringing and training. We therefore request that all proposals for any legislation further restricting ownership of any specific breed be rejected and laws focussed instead on the responsible ownership of dogs regardless of breed.

They are trying to show and rightly so in most situations that the reason a dog attacks is because the owner/handler of the animal is unfit to control said animal. The owner has not trained the animal in a way that would help prevent such attacks. And the owner dose not have the skills to train or control the animal. I think the reason for the petition is simple don't outlaw anymore breeds of dog but instead place more responsability on the owners to train and control the dog.

I don't agree with what the petitioner says. Some dogs are simply more inherently dangerous than others - it isn't just about how they've been brought up.

Personally i believe that whilst upbringing is very important, the dog breed does come into it, a Pit Bull is more likely to hurt someone than a poodle.

In the same way that terriers generally like to chase small animals, you just can't change the nature of a dog, if it's nature is to fight then it shouldn't be allowed.

Therefore i'm quite happy for the legislation to ban certain types.

Im with Fox certain dogs have very nasty temperaments just due to their breed. It should be a combination of dog breed and owner restrictions aswell as mandatory training if raising puppies.

It's actually not. Why have there been no cases of Labrador mauling in the last few years yet many cases of dangerous dog maulings?

Probably because the owners opt for the "dangerous" dogs. I'd like to see the familys who own these dogs, their circumstances, where they live etc etc.

Not stereotpying or anything...;)

I don't know if you're trolling or not, but it's simple, chave scum don't buy labs, becuase thety're not seen as 'ard dogs, staffies are. Thats not the breeds fault or the vast majority of responable staffie owners. So you think the majority should suffer because of a few idiots?

I won't sign up. There are dangerous dog breeds and that can't be taken away. It simply cannot, it is inherent in their make-up.

Upbringing and breeding has a massive impact on a dog's behavior, but to say that the breed doesn't affect it is nothing short of madness.

No, not sparta.

All dogs are dangerous if brought up badly.

Did you hear about the latest dog mauling a child case that happened in sheffield on Monday? it was a corgi.

Yes, and corgis are quite well known for their bad temperament so you've kind of disproved your own theory. :p
