The beast is here!

omfg @ the price

I was thinking maybe £200 - 250 at a massive push. You'd have to be mad to get one of those along with 2 771 cpus....

They're not required, custom SLi drivers have allowed SLi to be ran on Intel chip sets in the past.

dude technically they are not required, they are there for licensing SLI to Intel. SLI is nvidia technology and I see no problem in them charging Intel to use it. There are no stable 8xxx series hacked drivers, also they are no good if they are several months out of date.

I'm fully aware of the reasons behind them using NF100, it's the only way nVidia can strong hold their chipsets on the Intel performance platform by not letting your average Intel desktop board have SLi.

I have a problem with them charging to use it, I hope Intel screw them over in the future and don't release the power circuit requirements of their chips like they did at first with the 4nm CPU's. I don't want hot nFarce chips on my lovely Intel boards.

*80i = hot, over priced, FSB hole ridden monstrosities. Simply pushing the heat sink down on the reference boards cuts temperatures, what a joke.

i only just set my new computer up a week ago so not getting one yet but its on the list for when i need to upgrade 8cores is just going to be fun :D

Holy **** that costs way more than I thought it would!

Going to have too sell old quaddie as well by the looks of it, should have one ordered in the next week or two. :D:D:eek::eek:

Just been told that all Xeon's beginning with an 'X' are compatible with the Skulltrail mobo (and Penryn based, not worth putting the Conroe-based ones up). Going to confirm then pop them up onto our site later today :)

Hey JediFragger,

Will you be doing the non X versions as well? The other Penryn based Xeons will work as well, but just not overclock so well.

Also on price. To those who have mentioned how high the price is. Just consider the likes of Supermicro etc, this is a workstation class board with a bios that allows for the OC'ing. Yes it's quite expensive, but I thought it was going to be more.

Let's hope the FB-Dimms 800 start to show up here as well. Cos then I can buy Skulltrail and dimms. BTW, If the OCT Mac Pro Harpertown I have is anything to go by, these Skulltrails should be blindingly quick. Before someone asks, I use these for folding.

Bring them on.

It looks pointless, i saw a review for it, they had 2x QX9650's in it which was a total of 8 cores and on most apps/games it only used a maximum of 2 cores so wasnt any faster than what we have now. Also it only worked with 2 Ultras in SLI for some reason.

Maybe in a few years time when software is designed for multi cores it will be good but then again hardware will have moved on.
