Is it true that the cosworth engines with the addtion of *** can attain 800BHP and get to the 200mph range.. my m8 has an F reg which punches 435BHP and he has driven it at 156mph on a rev count of 4000rmp he reckons it can reach 163.. Mph
At the moment he says that the car would prob sell for £6-7K if that is true then heck that is a bargain... isnt it beats the s out of these subarus and would no doubt give a porsche a run for its money

:) presumably someone on here owns one if so are they as good as is made out or is it just misguided opinions..

as an engine it's one of the best performance engines ever built. you can get 400bhp without opening the engine.

800bhp is achieveable but it wont last and it will cost you a bomb.

i know quite a few with cossies and they are so tunable it's brilliant.

550-600bhp is a realistic top whack really without n.o.s but then you'll be replacing gearboxes, prop/drive shafts and transfer boxes every week.

mate of mine is running around the 450-500bhp and he has replaced the gearbox 3 times and the snapped the prop shaft on it inside 10000 miles.

I see absolutely no reason why it's not the case. His car has 200bhp more than my car, weighs less, and my car has an electronically limited top speed of 155mph.

So yes, infact I wouldnt be suprised to find his Cosworth can do more than 163mph.

What makes these engines so good?

As Gex said - just the design. Can take well above what they are at stock. Impressive.

when you go like for like via a subaru impreza boxer 4 lump - to get 400bhp from them costs a hell of a lot more and reliability is heavily compromised.

i wish Ford had used an updated version of this 4x4 engine for the Focus Cosworth. that would have been one special Focus.... :)

will yours do 155?, just a question really beacuse my car is in the same sort of speed range as yours but the top speed is 145?

*edit parkers says the 530i will do 155 that extra bit of power must make that top end difference* :D

231bhp, 300nm, 1540kg.

Although that latter figure depends on entirely how accurate council weighbridges are :p

mines 200bhp, 197nm 1380kg I think? could be out by a couple of kilograms.

My car is 1376 according to Parkers so I'd be surprised if the 800 isn't heavier?

Dunno where I'd go to get weighed..

Does that exist?

No. It was always rumoured but Ford couldn't afford to make it and have since sold off the Cosworth name so it will never happen sadly. People have been speculating for years about a 300bhp 4x4 Focus to rival Impreza's and the like but I am skeptical as to whether it will ever happen.

People have put cossie engines in Focuses (Foci?) but its a lot of hassle as the transmission tunnel needs widened etc so as a result there aren't many around.

I accidently drove mine down the wrong lane at the local tip and found myself on the weighbridge :p

My local top doesn't have a weighbridge :(

I live near a town called Weybridge though, you'd think they've have one
