9-Series Lineup Revealed

So when will we get a new faster card? I mean clearly the R700 is going to beat the 9800GTX and it looks like my 8800GT will play games at 1680x1050 for a long time yet..

hi

i bought my gts640 in 2006 for £317 couldnt quite justify £450 for a gtx but in hindsight it would have been the better buy but ill just o/clock my gts and hang on till possibly r700 . i just got a feeling about this one

cheers

How, we know the 9 series are old 8800's that have had their first 8's changed to 9's to be now known as the 9 series, not 8's (even though they are 8's), the 9600 GT is a cut down 8800 GT, the 9800 GX2 is 2x 8800 GTS's etc..., so i now corrected your post, the 8800 GTX will be faster than the 8800 GTX, as it will be, changing the first 8 to a 9 makes no differnce to whats under the hood, as under the hood its a, yup that right, an 8800. :)

If i kept my 8800 GT and stuck a number 9 over the first 8 on the cooler, could i then tell the world i had a 9800 GT, of course not, as its an 8800GT, and everyone would say, no its not, its an 8800 with a number 9 stuck over the first 8, its just an 8 series card with the first 8 changed to a 9, which is just what Nvidia have done, but they've also overclocked them a bit.:p
The 8800gtx core is 90nm,,,surely the new 9800gtx core will be 65nm or lower ???

If the new 9800gtx does have a 65nm or lower core, then you can't say they just struck an 8 over the 9...

But the G92 core (what the 8800 GT and 8800 GTS use) is 65nm... I'll let you draw your own conclusion.

No a card will be which is marginally faster...

So we're still laughing as that provides no reason to upgrade...

Based on what?

The benchies are not even out yet.

If your happy with the 8800 GTX then why would you upgrade anyway even

if the increase was bigger than what it actually is?

No, they also stuck those 8800's on smaller chips, so they didn't just stick an 8 over a 9, sorry i missed that out. :p

Im sorry but any way you look at it, these are still old bloody 2006 cards, wether they have shrunk them down, or changed a digit makes no difference, they are still 8800's which were released in November 2006, all they have done to them, is put them on a smaller die, and changed a digit.:)

But 8800 GTX will no longer be top end.

True, as the new 8800 GTX will be the top end. :p

Can't believe some ppl are considering getting shot of their 8800's to buy them again, and also at the same £400+ prices they paid for them in 2006, when they should know full well that 2006 8800's are not worth that much now, jesus, what an expensive overclock that is, oops, nearly forgot, that digit change must be costing a bit to, oh and you having to pay to have yer bus's cut down to 256bit as well, ouch, me sides, me sides. :D :D

I can also hear Nvidia laughing at yer to.:p

All I can say is that even though I'm upgrading and buying myself a 3870x2 - I REALLY hope that the GX2 is going to be better graphics card - only so I can laugh at LoadsaMoney whos seems to poo-poo it all the time :D

The unfortunate thing is... he's probably right anyway lol :p

Laugh all you want, i already know the GX2 will be faster than the X2, this isn't about that, its about it still being an old 2006 8800 on a smaller chip, 1 digit changed, and overclocked a bit.:D
