Who's Ditching 8800 for 9800?

If the 9800GTX offers 60%-100% performance increase over my 8800GT then maybe.

But they are litrally overclocked 8800's so there really is no point. Overclocked overprices 8800's.

What? Surely it would have to have more than 128 shaders.....otherwise it better be running at 1+ghz !

Open your mind...

I doubt NV will be that stupid tbh...

ok it may not be big for us...

but it needs to be be big enough for their costing.

Ok you'd think NV would have done something different with the 9600GT all that is is a cut down 8800GT... Was an 8600GT a cut down 7800GT? no...

It should be a new card, should have more SP's, newer arc, not G92.. It all points to it being an overclocked 8800GTS 512, as what a 9800GX2? Its 2x 8800GTS 512..

If it's like the jump from the 7000 series to the 8000 series then yes, if it's an overclocked 8800, then no.

From benchmarks a 7900 - 8800GTX was about twice as from what I see, sometimes more, I doubt the 9800's will be close to that ;).

What points to it being an overclocked 8800GTS 512mb? What are you using to make this conclusion?

Read the other threads, and a 9800GX2 is going to be 2 GTS 512's, and the 9800GX2 sure as hell aint going to be faster than the 9800GX2 flagship... Whats the 9600GT? Its a cut down 8800GT? It all adds up.

We know this.

Doesn't answer the problem.

Is NV a juxtaposition of ATI?

From the rumors of what the 9800's are, there is no chance I'll be changing (saying that I normally skip a generation anyway). However they are not out and we don't know how they'll perform. I hope its the normal doubling of power but doesn't sound like it this time...

No I will not be upgrading because no games require more than my 8800GT, I don't really need any more FPS I'm at 60 nearly all the time bar Crysis and I'm at 1920x1080, fantastic card.

Will probably keep this until 2009, we'll have 2x9800GX2's on one PCB before a REAL new card from nVidia. :p

How about 8 G92's on one PCB?

Well I don't see how an "overclocked 8800GTS" will compete with ATI's new lineup then as their single 4870 is supposed to do over 1 teraflop and the 4870x2 is supposed to do twice that.

TBH I think the 9800GTX will just be your run of the mill 65nm g92 architecture but will most definitely have more shaders. 192? 256 shaders? :D

If its G92 I doubt it wont have more shaders..

4870 single GPU wont compete with the GX2 I dont think, its got 480SP's or something...

And I'm sure current cards in SLi/XF can do 1TF.

Well, going by nVidia's namescheme, that'd make it G90 as opposed to G92.

Core name - shaders:
(G80 - 128.
G84 - 32.
G86 - 16.

(G90 - 256).
G92 - 128.
G94 - 64)

Pattern recognition. Got to love it. :P
