Ford RS Cosworths

Surely they must have or how do they charge commercial tippers?

Nope - It's just a small recycling / refuse place. There's probably a bigger one around here somewhere but I don't know off the top fo my head

I see absolutely no reason why it's not the case. His car has 200bhp more than my car, weighs less, and my car has an electronically limited top speed of 155mph.

So yes, infact I wouldnt be suprised to find his Cosworth can do more than 163mph.
There is more to take into account than simply power and weight. The aerodynamics and gearing have a large impact on top speed, two areas in which a 530i is probably superior to a Cosworth.

Power and aero are crucial.

Gearing has a small effect as it affect the power the engine makes vs the speed of the car.

Weight has zero effect

When did Ford own the 'Cosworth name' to sell it off?

Yeah that was maybe phrased badly. Ford have never owned the Cosworth name as such but I'm sure I read somewhere they did briefly own part of the company but later sold it off. Meaning that in all likelyhood any new 4x4 turbo'd focus would not carry the Cosworth name. Apologies if this is wrong, I remember it from a discussion on passionford when they sold their part of Cosworth.

So given that this is still one heck of a performance car .. what are the downsides .. what I mean is if you say paid £7k for one from my understanding it will still cane most of the cars on the market parts are easy to come by and its still not a bad looking motor .. So why are peeps buying your VRS and Mondeos when you can have, and hey point me in the right direction if I missunderstand. A great car for not a lot and an iconic engine design?

Beneath the Cosworthyness and the cool image it is a Ford Sierra.

In 1990, this was acceptable. In 2008, unless you are a comitted enthusiast, it is not.

Just like in 2023, people will think the same about Mondeo ST220's.

Thats it, I'm off to purchase myself a low milleage ST220 and keep it under lock and cover until its a collectors item

All Sierra Cosworths are now over 16 years old and thus were built at a time when Ford cars were not renowned for their rust resistance, build quality and general reliability.

Finding a decent one isn't easy - the majority of them ended up going backwards through hedges years ago.

Power to weight is all about how quickly it gets to speed X not how quickly X might be. Gearing can have a big impact on both outright speed and aceleration and areo becomes more and more important as the speed raises. The influence of gearing is best observed in Group B rally cars and rally cross cars with 600bhp and 120mph top speeds.

Saw 2 cossies today. A Sierra Saffy and a Escort Cossie. Why are they all driven by Bald Nutcases?

Pretty much my specialist subject here!! :D

Is it true that the cosworth engines with the addtion of *** can attain 800BHP and get to the 200mph range.. my m8 has an F reg which punches 435BHP and he has driven it at 156mph on a rev count of 4000rmp he reckons it can reach 163.. Mph
At the moment he says that the car would prob sell for £6-7K if that is true then heck that is a bargain... isnt it beats the s out of these subarus and would no doubt give a porsche a run for its money

Yes it is true. Guy called Rod Tarry has a monumental saff that has done 206. Its is currently being rebuilt and he is hoping to do 210+ this summer.

If your pal has a genuine 450 brake it should smash 163 (depending on if rear diff has been changed). Saffs (which I guess it is) are not selling for good money. Most big spec ones are broken as you will get more.

In a straight line it would clatter a scoob and pace a porsche. Round the twisties is another matter. They are 10 years older.

400 bhp can be got from standard internals, but anymore needs better pistons and head work really.

Downsides are massive running costs and chav image. Upside is that its mental to drive. Quite laggy delivery, but when it goes it goes. Mine boosts by 2.5k and between 3.5k to 7.5k is awesome, but pretty tail happy. :D

I remember Clarkson saying that he owned one during the 80's when they happened to be the car theif's fav choice. He said that the insurance company wanted £18K to insure it. :(

I was having a conversation about cossies in the local pub with a cosworth owner. he says that other than a cosworth engine he would only ever consider owning a supra as their engines are supposed to be equally as good as the cosworth with 600bhp being achievable without having to change any internals.
