Funny story... true though

Had to swap my 360 premium a while back at the store i purchased it, as the DVD drive had died..... anyway, got one - never bothered to really look at it and then yesterday, i had a look at the back and saw a HDMI port!!! is that a result? anyway, what leads do i need to get that baby working with a HDTV and.... is the quality that much better?

chuffed as a nut

you can get an HDMI cable for around £5-£10. As long as you are not running the cable over 2 meters you shouldn't notice any loss in quality.

HDMI would be better. I got one for my PS3 for about £2.50. Its a Digital signal, so the brand doesn't matter unless (as stated) its over a longish distance.

Am i alone in not liking HDMI connections? I think with a lot of games it makes it look a bit too sharp. VGA is better imo.

Have tried all types of connections for the console (VGA, HDMI etc) and can honestly say i think VGA looks best.

The one thing hdmi has over vga on a lot LCD TVs (like the Toshiba ones) is it supports 1080p (vga doesn't!).

also the combined sound means you have to get an adapter to feed the digital to an amp does it not? Ive been more than happy with component since i went HD, ive tried VGA and it was no better.

But tbh, i am running it on my TV which does 1080p and 1080i looks fine, hell even 720p looks great. But throw in HDMI it just seems to crisp, and that shows up any rough edges/jaggies more. I find it on both my PS3 and xbox. If i could be bothered i would get a VGA cable for my PS3, but i like the HDMI for BluRay movies.

I suppose you would, although i know some TV's like Sammy's have an optical out you can feed off, and the PS3 has the optical out.
Component i also found a bit too sharp for my taste.

It is all down to personal tastes really. I just wouldn't go with high hopes for HDMI being the be all and end all of quality.

I plug the HDMI from the 360 into my amp and then another HDMI cable from my amp to my TV. I could just plug it straight into my TV and get stereo sound out of my TV speakers but I have 5.1 so I have turned on internal mute on my tv,

Can't speak for the 360, but I've gone down the component vs HDMI before on other devices... scutinizing down to the last pixel.. I actually preferred the less harshness of component.. HOWEVER this is right up close studying the picture for flaws. Anyone else really wouldn't give a sheeeet cos as it's not noticable.

Tested using a 42inch Panasonic Plasma !
