There's a preview on techpowerup of the 9800GTX, source is expreview. Scores 14000 with a qx9xxx cpu at 3ghz, looks like it is just an overclocked gts :rolleyes:

If those are real, then nVidia really has dropped a clanger this time! Looks like it's their turn to play catch-up, especially once ATi's drivers mature for the X2.

I got more than that last night on my Q6600 @3.1gig and 8800GT @ 700/2000. Doesn't look like I'll be rushing to upgrade if thats what we can look forward too.

If it's true, the 3870x2 looks like it'll be faster than the 9800gtx and It'll be even worse if r700 comes this half.

Could this not have went in to the other 9800GTX thread? don't base performance on crappy 06, and what has the X2 got to do with 9800GTX, X2 will be competing against the GTX2.

lol i probably get more than that on an aging AMD cpu

truth be told i havent run 3DM06 in a while but still ;).. surely they must be releasing an ultra? at an over inflated price

That's because we roughly know how a 9800gtx is gonna perform, same as 8800gts sli minus 50mhz from the core speeds and +60mhz on the ram (saw this on techpowerup). We all know 3d mark doesn't equate the absolute performance indication, but for a rough idea it's 'ok' since its score indicates it's an overclocked gts and that's what the evidence points to.

Indeed, play games not 3DMark i think someone said :)

I'll wait untill someone from the forums has it and reviews it.

I'd made a similar comment, only, when a card isn't out we can use 3d mark results as a rough indication of what's to come. If a new card came out tomorrow and obliterated 06 with a score of, 25k at stock? I think everyone would be somewhat impressed as you'd instantly be able to tell it was something special.

very fair point

The GT/GTS flies in games, so if they got the drivers right.....it could....be a good card if its not 6 billion dollars

realistically 9800GTX will be competing against whatever is in its price range.

My thoughts exactly, nvidia seem to always charge a premium for their stuff, i can imagine it being the same price or maybe even more than an X2 (taking into consideration a few X2s have been going for really cheap lately).

Hhhmmmmm.........do you think that it's worth getting a GTS(G92) now before they replace it with this and put the price up? The PCB of the 9800GTX is too long for my case anyway.

If you game on 22" or lower then I'd go 8800GT, if on 24" then I'd get the OCUK 8800GTX or the 3870X2 if you can find a cheap one

That's not a bad score considering its with a 3GHz dual core. With a highly overclocked c2q and if the GTX itself overclocks well it could get as high as 17000 I'd say.
