German forums, 2x 3870 X2 works

CrossfireX driver, at least some early version of it, got leaked and a nice gamer's girl repacked it and upload it for you Download here. You will need such a driver to make two 3870 X2 to render in Quad GPU setup.

It is a total of 110MB download and we still have to try if this is a real McCoy. According to some posts here (German) the user did get some performance increase but this is a beta driver and you should not have high expectations.

We will let you know if we get something out of it but the real stuff is around Cebit so we don’t expect much from this beta.

This may be the Catalyst 8.3 as seen in the other thread.

Download Here

Good find , just need another card though :(

anyone who has purchased two x2's already can they can test them and report back !!

You may aswell put the driver on anyway as it's newer than any others out there at the moment I think?

So it may have other performance improvements.

Looks like the same one leaked on the VR forums and that didn't work with CrossfireX. :(

Was linked to on rage 3d yesterday, meant to be fiddly to install as none of the installer files apparently work.

This means that the CrossfireX architecture will have to be completely redone if they want an XP version, something they deemed not worth doing at this point, and I hate to say that I agree with the decision, but I do. That said, because of this, you are never going to see more than 2 GPUs working on XP making CrossfireX pointless to anyone not liking the tools that come with Vista. That would be me.

Was reading something about that myself on rage3d a while back. Think the reason was windows xp allows up to 2 AFR devices with vista allowing 4.
