Tequila Worm

In Mexico I saw some tequila that has a little scorpion in the bottom of the bottle.

Tequila worms are a gimmick for tourists are they not?

I've never seen good tequila (Don Julio) with such things in...

mmm tequila. Ok, most Tequila bar's have crap, and tbh, if it has a worm in it, it's probably a cheep gimmic from a cheep brand. A good Anejo or Extra Anejo Tequila is lovely. Some good ones even end up tasting like a good Rum :D.

Tequila doesn't get the respect it deserves haha.

haha lol.

I was thinking that you were going to munch up some bread in a pulp and pop it in your mouth with it haha.... thinking Noo i wouldn't do that option. :D

Proper tequila can only be made from the blue agave plant found in certain areas of western mexico. The worm is an agarve grub that only feeds on that particular plant. There is a chemical in the agave plant that the grub absorbs that has hallucionagenic properties.

Eating the worm is a myth. The worm is supposed to be put under the tounge where these chemicals can be absorbed into the bloodstream therefore making you trip. A bit like a mild dose of LSD.

Of course its illegal in this country so the worms are purely for show and just soaked in tequila. I have a bottle of mezcal in my bar in edinburgh that has about 6 worms in it as no on would eat them from the last 5 bottles.

I just bought some 70% absinthe from the airport on the way home from Madrid. Gonna give that a bash one night. I want to source some of the absinthe that has the like tree inside it, apparantly makes you hallucinate.

Also makes many people insane, which was why it was banned.
