the forum and swearing

I think the most worrying thing about this thread is the 179 post n00b who seems to think he can run this well established forum better than the moderators....

If you dont like it, move on, I belive the internet is a fairly big place...

When did I ever say anything about running it better than the current mods?? No personal attacks - Gilly and fully read posts! I have been reading these forums now for nearly 4 years, although I never registered it does not make me a noob around here!

OMG! Who do you think you are exactly?

I hate members like you - little brown-nosing creeps.

Just STFU and let the Mods do the Modding thanks.

how is that brown nosing? Asking for clarification on why the FAQ says fully star out the word (which used to be enforced) yet the dons/mods letting them slide is not brown nosing.

Is for people like you two that I wished we had a smily sticking his middle finger up :)

This thread has also bought up other issues that people have been asking about, so perhaps in future if you have nothing better than a personal insult to throw at someone you should just No personal attacks - Gillypress the back button!

who gives a stuff OP? I understand why these forums are strongly moderated as OCUK want a family orientated forum etc but as long as there is no direct "****** and blinding" why should we care?

Get down off your high horse

I just had to

Gilly you going to suspended the other two for making personal attacks to howdydoody? or just suspend him for responding to them?

3 out of those 4 happen on a regular basis on this forum. RE: Adult material sure its not XXX porn adult stuff but certainly the language on here is not something i'd want my kids to be "educating" themselves with. (if i had kids of course :D)

Personal attacks are a regular occurrence and mods do step in when it blows up out of proportion but they do let the one-off attacks slide. Trolling is part of daily life here unfortunately.

Swearing is quite well handled though imo. They do crack down on that quickly.

Trolling in this forum is fairly hard to define. I very very rarely see anyone being attacked or flamed for absolutely no reason, and most attacks often appear either through the stupidity of OP posts, or through disagreements between responding posters.

Yes im aware my post may seem as an attack, but I could rephrase it to a "This forum is well managed, if you dont agree with the proccesses being used you dont have to use this forum" type thing, but then I wouldnt have gotten a rise out of him.... :)

If you deliberately posted to get a rise out of him then you were trolling.

Gilly.

If you have a question on moderation please take it off-forums as directed by the FAQ.

my understanding of it this

if one wanted to post the banned version of the word "duck"

posing d**k would not suffice and earn you a holiday

if however you star out the whole of the swear word and post **** then this is the whole swear word expleted out and would be fine.

however if you were going to post the swearing version of "ducking"

posting

d**king would earn you a holiday
****ing doesnt

simple ?

What word was that then? :D

Twas prolly an intentional misspelling of the 'F' word involving o's instead of the propper 2nd and 3rd letters, which I tend to use on various forums quite regularly :o

As such when I post on here, sometimes it slips through.

Needs to be added to the word filter so I don't get suspended all the time if you ask me :p

putting something like D*** implies what the word should be.

With the wonders of the english language and most cuss words being 4 letters long posting **** does not imply any specific word, and therefore is less offensive

With regard to links which aren't particularily offensive in themselves, such as YouTube vids, I think I good policy to have would be for the person posting the link to issue some sort of a warning, "Link may contain swearing" etc.

Obviously linking to pages that are unambiguously crude or offensive should be frowned upon but I think some sort of warning system for mild cases should be implemented since it gets hard to moderate, and makes things quite restrictive when sharing other sites/media. It's like a case of where do you draw the line - you could link to a page with no swearing which has a link to a page which is full of it :)
