Tonight's Horizon

I've recorded it so I'll be watching tomorrow.

Wiki suggests however that it's a pretty unpleasant, and (by our standards) rather strange place, like all of these extrasolar worlds.

Once they're able detect Earth size or smaller worlds at respectable distances from their parent stars, then things will get properly interesting. At the moment however these worlds are all simply candidates for a cosmic freak show. :D

Good if your new to the subject but I was a bit disappointed, 90% was old ground and stuff that has been covered many times before on Horizon and Equinox.

Another Horizon show full of lay science which ends without really answering any questions.

However, the programs are pretty interesting and promote debate, so I still watch every week.

It was moderately interesting.

It was, and somewhat disappointing as a result.

Harping on about 'there may be life out there' is rather pointless. I was far more interested in the new telescope that can detect minute wobbles but it got nothing more than a brief mention.

Anyone else remember when Horizon used to be one of the flagship 'scientific' shows on TV?

Yep, those were the days, now it seems too basic and obvious to be interesting. Horizon used to give a deeper insight into things, now it seems really dumbed down. I feel Horizon doesn't really tell me much I didn't know already, and I'm not the most scientifically minded. What was in last nights episode has been explained in a few minutes on the news when it was first discovered, and I thought places like seti and the other things they touched on were pretty well known. It's fair enough for them to want it to be simple enough for everyone, but I think it should be how it used to be, I used to remember watching it and it was very interesting, and also left you thinking a bit. Now it's just like, hmm yeah I've heard about this in the news, I've heard of these things in basic detail before, *funky camera angles* - an hour has passed.

I'm just downloading this now to watch when I get home later, but from the past Horizon episodes on Science, it does feel dumbed down compared to what it used to be. Maybe I'm just getting smarter though... *ponders* :p lol.
