Are you buying all of your new movies in High Def?

The movies I acquire, I usually go for ones that are 1080P if available.

Hope Blu-Ray drops in price soon, I wanna start a collection.

Yea, it is very hard for me to go back SD once I have seen HD tbh.

It's like changing to a 50" TV and never looking back

It will depend on the price & whether an online review says the PQ is better than standard def. An example of this would be Full Metal Jacket HD-DVD. I've read reviews that have said don't bother upgrading from Standard def (having said that WB are (or were) releasing a 'ultimate version' ) :D

Haven't bought any films recently though I have got I Am Legend on pre order on BlueRay, also got the Spiderman and Pirates trilogy on the way as a freebie for registering my BlueRay player with Sony :D

I have bought a few SD dvd's in the last few months - but seeing as I have bought around 200 HD discs in the last year, I guess you can count me as an emphatic "Yes":D

...I have bought around 200 HD discs in the last year...

...I had no idea there were 200 different titles even available... You sure you didn't double up on any by accident? :)

Personally, I always think twice about buying SD now - it'll often depend on whether the title has much in the way of action/SFX. Then I'll take into account the extra features - or lack thereof. That's often a clincher.

TBH renting has now become more viable than buying for HD (availability issues aside) as there is no extra premium to pay over SD, unlike the retail costs...

Proberly veering off topic with this one but does anyone know if Cloverfield is coming out on BlueRay? I can only see it available to pre order on DVD and HD-DVD, seems odd considering HD-DVD is now dead

i watched my first hd film tonight and was really impressed. the detail in apocolypto was very good which in turn made me get into it more. iv never brought a SD film in my life due to them been so easily accessable online but i will definatly be adding to my collection every week!

All I have been buying is Blu-rays,trying to build my collection up. There is still a limited choice, and hopefully the HD-DVD defecting studies will get their films out on BD soon.

O and at the weekend I got 6 BD for £40. A toy superstore does superman returns, swordfish, ice age 2, blood diamond, hitch, all for £10 each. Plus i got casino roayl and gone in 60 seconds for free when I traded in my PS3 six-axis.

At about 20 quid a pop, no. However anything I rent is on BR, and for the moment I won't be buying anything on DVD either since I've been spoiled with HD goodness. :D

I don't have a blu-ray/hd dvd player - so I haven't bothered yet.

When the hd players drop in price and I have one, I will consider it as a possiblity.

I'm trying to buy films that I actively want on BD and have around 30ish now. The problems are that there's not more new releases as I'm avoiding replacing films I already have on SD-DVD and clearly not all new films are out in BD.

I didn't say they were all one format...

Actually, I was taking that into account! I'm guessing you must have imported a lot of titles.

I would probably buy more titles myself but one problem I've noticed is that many of my favourite films (mainly from the 70's & 80's) don't tend to improve that much over SD (aside from the occasional restored/remastered titles), hence prove poor value for money. The HD transfer may actually reveal more grain & imperfections from the original film stock than DVD or videotape did...

Frank, my friend...please take the time to answer the following questions -

  • Have you ever decided to stop watching HD Movies for a week or so, but only lasted for a couple of days?
  • Do you wish people would mind their own business about your HD Movies & stop telling you what to do?
  • Have you ever switched from one HD Movie format to another in the hope that this would keep you from getting bored?
  • Have you had to watch a HD Movie in the morning during the past year?
  • Do you envy people who can watch a HD Movie without wanting to watch another?
  • Has watching HD Movies caused trouble at home?
  • Have you missed days of work because of HD Movies?
  • Do you tell yourself you can stop watching HD Movies any time you want to, even though you keep watching HD Movies when you don't mean to?

If you answered 'yes' to any of those questions, you may have a problem - but remember, no one is judging you...

Start by simply saying "My name is Frank and I'm an HD-Addict..."

Hmmm... I really ought to get a life instead of spending all this time researching and formatting allegedly humourous posts. Maybe I just need more movies...;)
