MILLIONS face water rationing!!!!!!

Dont worry its not too bad.

We have had it for a few years now.

You will given days when certain house numbers can water there gardens and others cant.
Some states wont let you wash your car.
Some states dont let you water your garden at all.

Its really not that bad TBH, Pluss you live in the UK where everything is green anyway:D

The people that get hit by it the most is the farmers that cant give enough water to there stock and cant water there crops as much as they need

With an Ancient water System that leaks so much that even the UK, a place that gets much more rain in month then many many countrys around the globe get in there entire winter season and are still about to have a drought:p

Which is why we're a bit perturbed as to why there are already reports of a need to ration our use of water during the summer.

In all seriousness, this is quite ludicrous if not surprising.

Just put a brick in your cistern to reduce the amount of water used..

I agree it's stupid that privatisation of the water companies has led to a conflict in interests as they sell the story that they can't fix things without yet more money.
Their companies are bleeding as much money to investors as they do water out of their pipes..

Water rationing is no big deal. We have it every year in Australia.

Just common sense, really.

In Australia, you don't have anywhere near the amount of rain that we get in Britain though. How we can have the wettest summer since records began, then follow that up with a possible drought is beyond me.

its very simple - we are crap at water management.

It is going to be more important than anything else and yet we lose so much clean fresh water through leaking pipes as to be untrue.

According to the link in the OP:

The industry has greatly improved its record on reducing leaks but still loses 752 million gallons a day from its pipes, according to the latest figures.

That, to me, is a frankly staggering amount. That equates to a loss of over 5 BILLION gallons every week! Madness.

I'm currently working on a distribution system supplying ~3 million people. The estimated leakage figures are approximately 90%!

In the UK, figures vary wildly depending on the area, 5% up to 60%+ in areas of London.

Cor, I never knew the figures of wastage prior to this thread. Five billion gallons of waste per week? That's quite frankly disgraceful. It's times like these when I would really prefer to have nationalised main industry, but still, that SHOULD be enough to encourage them to fix it. I assume that the companies are losing a lot of money through these leaks?

Your Profile confuses me a bit.

Do you live travel between Australia and the UK a lot?:)

Or have you shifted to the UK from Australia?

They should have started building the National Water Grid when they mooted the idea after the 1976 drought. Some parts of the country have more than enough water others the opposite, in a 'developed' country that just isn't right.
