I'm back baby!
Requirements:

Must be tiny. The smaller it is, the better she'd prefer it.
Must not be massively expensive.
Must not be so annoying a boxer is likely to eat it.
Must allow for dribble and play from aforementioned boxer.
Must not be bitey around young kids.

Preferences:

Cuteness ( :o)
Less propensity to shed

It doesn't have to be a pedigree.

The three main contenders are a chihuahua, a tea cup Yorkshire Terrier or a Pugalier.

Suggestions?

This is actually for you isn't it? To carry around in your man-bag? :D

Anyway, in my limited experience of small dogs, Chihuahua and Yorkies are savage. I've known a few yorkies and they were all a bit mad. The Chihuahua was evil. Not sure about Pug types though.

Yeah, thats where she got the pugalier idea from.

Ideally she'd like a smaller one than that, but that is the starting point :)

I've completely gone off the pugalier idea. Just from reading a couple of sites there's a lot of vitriol aimed at breeders that're making this kind of dog.

Rumbled...

I used to loath Yorkshire Terriers. They can be yappy self adoring, overactive etc. But recently my mom adopted one, and I couldn't have been more surprised. It's affectionate, reasonably quiet and responds really well to the other animals (big labrador and 3 cats). Not my thing and they seem to be luck of the draw, but you could do worse.

Little dog's don't really seem to have the same level of personality to me, and that puny shrill sharp bark drives me mental. Should fit into your purse quite nicely though ;).

A Bichon Frise? :)

They are pretty small. Could easily fit one in your man bag or rucksack.

Does it have to be a dog? Most small dogs seem to be the most irritating things in the world and aren't half as loving and loyal as larger dogs.

I couldn't agree more. The boxer will be trained to keep it away from me :D

It's either that or a ferret. Aint having one of them anywhere near me or my dog.

Just noticed you've already got a boxer yourself :D, good man.

Small dogs seem to be much of a muchness really, all they do is shake, bark and **** on the floor. Of all the choices it would have to be a male yorkshire terrier though.

I have 2 Yorkies, a dog and a bitch.

The dog is now 5 years old and weighs about 3kgs:p Proper little pretty boy he is as well, always posing. He is classed as a toy and if we really wanted to tart him up and grow his coat, we could show him.

The bitch is 3 1/2 and weighs almost twice as much, she is a little fusspot and is good fun to play with. Likes to cuddle up to you whilst you watch tv.
Plus, they hardly shed any fur

My sis has a King Charles and she (the dog) is very good company for her and her twin boys.

Every little dog I've ever come across I've either stood on it or stood in something it left behind, I've never been able to figure out which one is which.

From My Experiences most 'Small' (and pointless) Dogs are Bitey/Yappy things trying to make up for their diminutive size by being Bitey and Yappy!...

Except the mentioned K.C. Spaniel!!... Their just thick and Loveable/Loving! (must be a Spaniel thing!!).

:)
