I can't believe how good Vista x64 is with 4GB memory....

Just installing mine now and seems smoother compared to 32bit and that's with 2g of ram. Going to add my other 2g once i have updated etc as I read that there can be instillation problems installing with 4g.

Only problem is I just realised that there is no 64bit drivers for my Hercules XP Theater sounds and I like that break out box. looks like a Xoner card will be a next purchase. Not looking forward to using my commando on board sound though.

Damm spoke too soon. After installing all the updates there is and then activating my copy(oem ultimate from ocuk yesterday). I did a shut down and on reboot the system locks up on the scrolling green bar screen but with boot up after a reset and selecting load windows as normal, but reboots fine on a restart but locks up on the same screen on a cold boot.

Any ideas that could be causing this? are there any issues with the lastest updates?

sys: Asus commando, E8500, x2 1g pc9200 flex(another 2 to go in) 8800gtx, sound card as mentioned but no drivers installed, x 2 320g maxtor diamond max 17 in raid 0, x1 pioneer ide dvr112d, logitch g15, ms optical rat.

On system info no conflicts aprt from the being no drivers installed for the sound card.

any insight would be welcome.

From what ive been reading vista loves the quad core as oposed to XP,
Thats it ive decided to swop over to Vista64 but must get some more Ram its a new build so should be Ok hope:p

Say Althulas is your ram the Kingstan 9200 its just that it sounds like you have a ram failure is it getting enough power, as its , 2.3-2.4v VDIMM, Kingston. maybe your BIOS is giving it default of 1.9 worth checking out however i could be wrong am certanly no whizkid hope this helps Davy

Is the driver support good for Vista x64? And do all games from XP 32bit play fine on it? Tempted to try it with all these comments :D

Yup, everything that works on 32bit, works on 64bit (apart from 16bit stuff)

Games work fine, programs run fine and driver support is good, unless you have some dot matrix made in 1905.

My setup was doing this, cold boot would get stuck....press reset and it would boot every time? Yeah?

I just upped the voltage on my ram to 2.15v from 2v and its all ok now...almost DEFO your ram mate.

My P5KC does this too! I thought my overclock was the problem but hey I never touched the ram volts so will try this tonight!

Thanks for the reply Davy and Hernaldo but it's not the ram as it's rated 1.8-2.35v and I tried a cold boot from my OC profile with the same lock up, but i will also try memtest just to make sure theres nothing wrong with my sticks and recheck all of my wiring just to make sure of no loose connections.

I wonder if it could be a HD fault as I had a series of crashes from some recent OC tweaking in my previous vista 32 setup and my raid array gave a message that the array was failing in windoes and gave a error in the raid screen during bootup that a fault was with a drive but when I deleted the array and created a new one no fault was shown and no faults were recorded during scan disk.

After rebooting at the moment and choosing to start windows as normal I have found my setting and programmes slightly altered to a previous boot for example my set up in my G15 keyboard have all gone, it's as if I have used system retore.

Finally people are realising Vista isnt bad like some people try to make out.

it can be a little annoying at times, also its new so it confuses the hell out of me.

but its more stable than my workstation at work (which probably costs a bit more than my PC).

I have had more BSOD on my workstation than on my vista desktop, this includes BSOD from overclocking

I just changed from XP to Vista (SP1) and have to agree it flies - Intel E8400 @ 3.8GHz & 2GB.

You & me 3 :D
Last couple of weeks all i have read is how Vista has come into its own. I'm in Skintsville this weekend so all plotted up, A perfect time to dip into the world of Vista.
Only got 2gig & a an old 939 set up so if it's work on mine for me it'll work on anyones.
Worth noting I am addicted to BF2 so if it don't run that as well or better than XP I'll set fire to it & slate it in one sided posts from now till Dooms day :p
