"Fun" car, what would you buy?

What off season training do they do in karts? (apart from the odd charity race)

you see, you have no idea what it takes to drive a pucka race kart, button trained at Genk (complete with rib protector), it was part of his off season program.
Schumacher is quoted as saying the fitness required keeps him sharp for F1.

note they are not go-karts, we're talking 500bhp per ton in some cases.

please keep up, I was replying to the road car quote but people still mention track days.

"Please keep up?" Wind your neck in. I wanted clarification of your statement because it didn't make sense.

You said

"it bugs me as soon as people mention track days though "

What bugs you? And why? The OP never mentioned track days, he just wants a fun car to use at weekends - he didn't say he wanted a track car.

where did I say he did? I said 'people' and now youre giving it the wind youre neck in comment, , are you now going to moderate the whole thread on what 'fun' really is ? if you want things to make sense, read the threads properly.

someone mentioned track day car, and youre getting you knickers in a twist with me. And if you must know it bugs me when people take a forgiving road car to a race track and think its unbeatable fun, hence I mention a pukka race kart at 500 bhp per ton, for around 3k is unbeatable, and your 'bit pants' comment totally irrelavant to my point and uncalled for. The OP's reply with the winky was enough thanks, I guess you missed that too.

Nope. But I'm not going to suggest a go-kart because the OP wants a road car.

And if you must know
I must!

Oh so it was an "I know considerably more about having fun than yaaow" comment was it?
I'm sure a go-kart is great fun but that doesn't mean a car isn't. Stop looking down your nose at people. I'm sure there are bikers out there who think your go-kart is equally silly.

Not really, the OP wants a car he can drive on the road, and a go-kart would be a bit pants for that. So my comment was entirely relevant

Crikey penski, you should have given me a proper warning that we had a real live go-kart warrior on the forums :D

howardcanning:

Is the age of the car a factor? Does it need to be very reliable? How handy are you with spanners if things go wrong?

SC04 - accept that nobody else wants to play with go-karts ;)

I already have, and its a shame.
The discussions have been brought up in the industry, and one theory is that there is no 'look at me' pose factor to why people would rather spend more money tarting up road cars for a far inferior experiance.
The pointless IMO car modding industry is on the up and Karting as a skilled sport still struggles in the UK.

Grow up ffs, it was a suggestion that's all. Ive raced bikes, cars and karts FYI, I know a lot of bikers, and the genuine ones appreciate a 20,000 RPM two-stroke motor when they see one, so dont give a damn what you or others think is silly.

will it make you feel better If i say you've won whatever argument youre trying to win?

So hang on one second, you accuse Lopez of pulling you up on something you did or didn't say, when you did, then now your getting all defensive and calling people childish and telling them to grow up just cause they don't see your point of view.. hmm.....

The OP wants a fun 'road car', key words being road car, if road going gokarts are all that then clearly they would sell by the hundreds, they don't so they can't be.

Best option posted like has already been said is a Mk2 1.8iS MX5, its a great car, and has options such as airbags, heaters and proper crash protection, not to mention a roof.

You can't take a kart on the road, you need a lot of kit to maintain one, it costs a lot of money to be competitive, you can't spontaneously jump in your kart and go for a hoon...There are many, many reasons.

A primary one of which (and one which I think a lot of Karters are ignorant of) is that mega corner speeds aren't everything. I've had more fun in my dads' 205 rally car down a B-road than I have racing Enduro Karts. Hell, I've had more fun in an MG midget with 60bhp...
