He better hope he gets more porsches in for salvage then ;), the insurance costs would be the least of my worries, everyone I know whos had to let a porsche go was due to expensive service costs :eek:

Your friends are not typical of the Porsche owners I know.......or me.
 
Buying a cheap Porsche is a road to big bills that much is true. No warranty and lots of miles will usually mean big bills, which is why buying one (hell even consdering one) because it's the same price as new Golf or Mini is a likely road to ruin.

THen thats their own fault for expecting a cheap car at tiem of purchase to have cheap runnign costs, adn obviously havent considered runnign costs and just bought it for the hell of it.

possesion of a 'cheap' porsche and get it dealer serviced ?

so how do you run a porsche if you are a "tight arse" like the OPs old man ?

The only porsche I will buy, is one Im happy to drop the engine out myself and put on the bench.

And that exactly what stopped me from buying one, after reading the Hartech report and speaking to the guy who had looked after the car, i ran through what he would expect the car to need next, it was expected that for the next service it was going to need 2.5k spending on it.

Made me think twice, so i decided not to buy the car.

And how much do you guys think servicing a 'non' cheap porsche costs ?
 
The prices of the standard service schedule arn't too bad at all, they are even better at someone like Hartech, its when it starts needing other stuff that really pushes the prices up, or thats what i found anyways.

The chap who bought my GT3 bought it because it was clean, fresh and had everything that needed doing done, most of the other GT3's he looked at needed between £4K and £15K spending on them, which is why he was happy to spend over the odds to buy mine. He still paid Andy Fearn around £200 to make sure it was straight, a move I urged him to do as Andy knew my GT3.

Within the 3 months before selling I added 4 new tyres, a Porsche warranty, a fresh geo set up, a new front splitter and a service 2, probably costing me around £4K which I simply added, give or take to my selling price compared to the 'other' GT3's out there. You can go VERY wrong with a 911 if you don't get a good one and if in any doubt you did the right thing walking.
