The armed forces.

I heard this on breakfast tv this morning. On the way to work it was on the radio & they went into more detail putting the blame on a group of muslim youths. Suprised no-one else has mentioned this, did I imagine it?

It disgusts me that armed forces are treated this way.
These people are prepared to go to war for us, risking life and this is how people show gratitude?

It makes my blood boil that people can even think of showing any disrespect to soldiers.

To the guy who said soldiers should leave the forces if they disagee with the war(s), the problem is their desire to get their hands dirty and do the job they are trained to do is far greater than the desire to leave. The bond between the soldiers is also stronger than many of us civvies will understand and the thought of not going to war with their mates wouldn't even cross their mind even if they didn't agree with the reasons for going.
My bro is a Captain in the Army, wild dogs and rampaging keyboard warriors wouldn't stop him going to Iraq or Afghanistan.

I have never fought in a war, I have never been shot at. Were my country to be invaded, I'd like to think I'd be there to defend it. But these people have committed themselves to the defense of this country. They ask not why or what, they follow the orders passed down from our democratically elected government that all the people who whinge and moan probably voted for.

Every year I buy countless poppies to replace the numerous ones I lose and I feel that in some small way that I am supporting those who defend what we are today.

I knew the RAF guy who died in Basra recently - lots of my friends and colleagues turned out to pay their respects to the hearse as it passed by this afternoon. He was there in a medical capacity. To all those people who slight the armed forces, how can he be the subject of your anger? He never fired a gun at anyone, on the contrary, he was there to help people, whether friend or foe.

Some respect for these people please!

Simple solution really. Let the forces personnel carry their firearms with them at all times and give them permission to shoot anyone who gives them hassle. While we're at it, bring back personal hand axes for firefighters and let us deal with the brick throwing brigade in our own way. :D

You know, I never thought I'd find myself agreeing with you.... but here, I have!

What have the UK armed forces done which contravenes this piece of legislation you seem to have dreamt of? (Not to say there are not numerous treaties and conventions to be followed but at least cite a correct one...and insert it into my question).

The whole Iraqi invasion...thus any soldier and CO is classed as a war criminal. Except because "we are right" then your viewpoint is this invasion is just. Unless you even class GWB admitting his earlier lies, as good enough excuse for this mess. If so you are no different to a member of the german population is 1940 (supporting the invasion of poland and other countries, based on the leader at the time)

If only more soldiers were like Lt. Erhen Watada.

We aren't allowed to wear our uniform in public here, unless on a proper patrol, now as only a TA member, but very active, I've never had any personal problem with this, however we're not 'all friends' here anyway (Northern Ireland). But when we go to England and are wearing uniform in public people sometimes assume that we're thuggish squaddies and we're going to cause havoc, get some funny looks but no abuse...

I have been spat at by idiots in passing cars whilst walking to the village near my base dressed in raf uniform. These fools have my utter contempt.

Didnt do anything, just paid and left, didnt want to kick off and just give a bad name for my station.
Just as well we arnt all crab air :D
lets not forget that british troops are fighting terrorism al over the world, in iraq, Afghan and Africa to name just 3.
Im off to Afghan early next month but have always kept my family well away from my job, the wife and kids dont advertise the fact im in the forces and neither do i, i dont even look like a soldier (massive sideburns and fashionable clothes :D).
People need to remember that there is free speach in this country but it comes at a price.

illegal wars are only illegal if the US/other highly influential country's administrations are against it.

If you have ever spoken to anyone in the military especially down here you will find they are some fo the most respectfull people around.

I found out that in retail when i had to serve some and noticed they were in the Army by either when they were in uniform or the type of bank card they used.

Every single one of them have been respectfull and if something messed up with the computer they were always very patiant and had a joke and a laugh with you while you fixed it.

Granted i've only skimmed through reading your whole thread Zefan (or what ever your called now-a-days) :p

I have two brothers both in the RAF, my dad and father in law are both ex RAF so i can confidently say we've got strong family ties with the forces.

What you have to bear in mind is its our government thats sent our forces off to war , regardless of whether you believe in whether cause was justified or not these people are being paid (not enough imo) to put their live's on the line for the freedom and safety of everyone in our country.

For someone to then turn around and say your uniform offends me is a complete and utter disgrace to everything these people have fought for and just goes to show how ****** up our country has now become !

It's really disgraceful. I met two soldiers last night in KFC, and told them that I had admiration and respect for them. :)

I would never abuse anyone in the army, though I don't support using the military for anything other than defending the country such as the current war for oil. Nor can I understand the level of subservience of people in the army, just going along with whatever mad scheme the government thinks up next.
