As title says, has anyone had experience at this...is it something to have a laugh with or stay clear.....

I did when I was 15, with some girl who lived opposite end of the country, lasted a month. Was a laugh and I still talk to her today regularly 7 years on

Wouldn't recommend it though for anything serious

In terms of just friendship, yeah definitely, I still talk to people online that I first spoke to 10+ years ago

In my opinion, I suppose its fun for a while when you're young and niave, but it never tends to last where relationships are concerned.

But I have a few really good friends I've met via online, and in person obviously, and are still good friends with today and in one case he's one of my best friends.:)

Met a couple of people from 'the net' a few years ago, nice enough people actually, just dont be surprised if they turn out to look completley different ! And meet somewhere public :p

Met a mate i knew online for a few years, went to play pool. All good as long as you know what you're doing.

One of the teams in my unit at work deals with online child protection, and while I'm not directly involved with their work I know enough that if I ever have kids they're NEVER meeting up with someone they met on the internet unless I'm with them.

I've met several friends over the net, mostly Americans from another forum I'm very active on. In summer me and a friend flew over to Florida for 3 weeks to meet a group of them. It was great fun, we all had a laugh, and they were in awe of our accents. Good times :)

I've met 5 or 6 people from the net, not one has turned out to be a paedophile yet. If you arn't an idiot it's pretty hard to get tricked imo.

I've got quite a few chatroom friends, seveal of whom I've met in real life. Even had a IRC girlfriend when I was 15/16, lasted quite some time lol, met up with her though a few years ago, and just laughed about it all, still good friends now.

I've met about 6 people from off the net.. 3 (I think) were when I was much younger 14/15, and a couple more recently. Haven't been bum raped yet, although I think one person I was talking to when I was 14 was actually lieing to me a lot.. thinking back to some of the stuff they told me now.

Because of both attending and staffing the i-series lans and the job I do now which involves gaming communities, I've met hundreds of people I met online in real life. Some of them are now people I count as some of my best friends.

Ironically it all started because none of my local friends wanted to go to i8, so I hung around on IRC and got to know people, then a load of us grouped up into a clan for the event. It was great fun and most of us have been good friends ever since.

My girlfriend made a friend which she met up with several times. She then found out she was a lesbian psycho and never saw her again.

Only people ive met that i speak to on the net, were those friends with people i know, which id never met.

im not that naive... the person im chatting to has a web cam so i know shes over 18...she's 37....only problem is shes married....bored with hubby etc...

I did some Interweb riding back in the Freeserve days :o
I learnt real quick to arrange the meet in a place where you can check the target out properly before you commit to eye contact & them knowing it's you.
One of my early meets involved me walking around this high wall only to be faced with a Wildebeest straight out of the Serengeti (sp?)
Had to use Uber strong beer goggles with that one but then you do get the sense of achievement after wards in having battled through a rough one :D
Easier these days with web cams & Rule is No web cam chat No meet. Still don't stop you meeting complete lunatics though, I have to many storeys to list here.
My On Tour Internet riding record was 3 in 32 hours travelling between Derby, Grimsby & some place on the South coast beginning with W, can't remember now but it had a nice marina :p
If you're single & over 30 Internet riding can be quite productive, I've found that spreading them around the country was far less hassle than having a few local but in the end i got sick of the travelling.
I Highly recommend Internet riding though but then i highly recommend any riding :p
