I grew up on the likes of AC/DC, Sabbath, Judas Priest etc.

Recently got hold of some Seether, Dream Theatre, Disturbed and Rammstein - all excellent.

Any recommendations for something similar!

My favourite progressive rock band is probably Rush. I'm not a great lover of prog though. But you can't go wrong with a bit of Peart.

Rush, Liquid Tension Experiment, Symphony X, Circus Maximus, Pain of Salvation, Ayreon, Between the Buried and Me, Opeth, Explorer's Club, etc, etc.

Argh, genre headaches here.

I'd describe these bands as progressive:

Frost*
Oceansize
Marillion
Porcupine Tree
Tool
IQ
Mew
Pure Reason Revolution
Opeth
Sigur Ros

I highly recommend you check out all of the above!

More classic Progressive Rock:
Rush
Yes
Genesis
Camel
Vandergraff Generator
King Crimson
E.L.O

Another vote for Mars Volta, try some Tool also...

I'm not sure if QOTSA count but they've done some pretty crazy sounding 10min+ tunes...

Unfortunately none of these are progressive rock. Seether is grungey thingy, Dream Theatre is modern power(ish) metal, Disturbed is a nu metal hybrid and Rammstein is industrialized metal thingy.

Seether - you could try Alter Bridge
Dream Theater - Symphony X
Disturbed - donno
Rammstein - try Laibach, it's what Rammstein copy.

Dream Theatre are definitely prog. They came about when prog had it's revival in the early 90s. I agree though, it' is more metal, but it's definitely progressive in my opinion. The only other band I know out of those four is Rammstein, and I'd say that's more of the same.

Just listen to Leftoverture or Point Of Know Return by Kansas and see where everybody got their ideas from.

well, I've listened to Leftoverture several times and I can't really see where Pure Reason Revolution, Oceansize, Porcupine Tree, Amplifier, The Mayan Factor, dredg, A Perfect Circle, Tool, VAST, Aereogramme et al got their sound from. I'll give it a listen again, but I'm fairly sure it's not changed that much!

Funnily enough, only one of the bands in the op is something I would consider even remotely prog, and that's Dream Theater - I think they're more prog metal, though. If you like them, try Symphony X, Circus Maximus, Freak Kitchen, something like that.

If you're feeling particularly proggy, have a listen to Steve Hillage, or any Hawkwind.

I think the term "prog rock" covers such a wide range of music (particularly having looked briefly at the wiki link above). Personally I describe Dream Theater as "Prog metal" and Disturbed and Rammstein as v0n said (dont know about seether).

If you want something similar to Dream Theater you could try Queensryche (get a best of though cos some of/most of their albums aren't that good), or Savatage (Gutter Ballet, Edge of Thorns and Handful of Rain are ****ing brilliant albums). Brazen Abbot might also be of interest to you.

Check out Savatage here.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Vg9Z0Os9ck (very 1980's) ...personally I love them and I think they'd be my favourite band!
