after 6yr absence from work as become house husband, i worked my 1st night at TECSO and i actually enjoed it. Total job change from skilled wood machinist (lack of jobs here and been twice made redundent) to night worker (shelf staking) at Tesco's. 39yr old amongst the rather young Polish, Chilean , Philipino's, they make you work hard but was actually not bad. Time flew past, i actually feel less tired now then when i went to work at 10.30pm last night, lol

Interview was the best on Sunday, because i knew someone who worked there for 7yrs on nights and a few others the guy (my section manager) said, " because i know him and he has been told i'm hard worker then he wasn't going to answer me any interview questons and the job was mine"

See think of me when you go to your local tesco's and ruin all my lovely staked fruit juice, cheese, cream cakes that took me 8 hours to stack and rotate and face up

lol

i used to do nights at sainsburys, hated that though, the same music on the radio EVERY night, the same isle, the same stock, after a while you become a zombie

though theres nothing better than that feeling of finally getting home and putting your head on the pillow after working all night :D

Stock rotation lol... I always move everything out the way and get the fresh stuff at the back. Sorry. :o

well done.
The hardest thing is getting enough sleep during the day, my husband was night manager at waitrose for years and was always grumpy due to lack of sleep!

no music at this one its a 24 hour tesco , unless its a sunday when its closed at night and then the lads take in stereos, you can even use a mp3 player as long as its only plugged into one on ear during the rest of the week, lol. TBH i don't know why they even open it but its funny seeing the sad gits (just like us) shopping at 3.00pm. Was surprised how many women actually worked nights. 3 course meal for £1.25 (probably all the out of date stuff). Think i'm going to hate the dot.com shoppers who raid the floor at 6.00Am on the dot! - mad rush of 30 odd tesco dot.com workers and their trollys collecting all the internet orders! - every single one of them women.

Anyway of to bed in a mo

I do shifted work... don't know what the shifts are going to be like at the Ambulance Service, but where I am atm, we do either 3 or 4 shifts with 3 off... we don't get time and a half but if the nights are in the week, most of the night we just sit around doing nothing, so I just take my Laptop with me and play games all night...

I was lucky enough to do 6pm Midnight supermarket shelf stacking in the days when the shops shut a 6 or 8. Wasnt a bad gig as I could go to college and work 4 nights a week plus Saturdays.

When the store has no customers it was pretty good especially as the night shift manager let us use the store music system for our tapes.

I think the novelty may wear off eventually.

Expect you will have already or soon will be finding odd stuff in the wrong aisle, finding high value stuff in the wrong lane is a dead giveaway that a shoplifter got spooked.

Congrats! I've got a mate who does shelves at night n our local Tesco's and he says it's a blast. He's told me of the mad comical things the workers get up to once they've finished their allotted isles! :D He's been doing the job for 3.5yrs now and has passed the opportunity to move up because he enjoys it so much. Apparently good pay too.

You also meet the strangest people doing that job!
