I just told one that I would rather flay off my own skin then roll around in salt than do the POS job they contacted me about.

FFS, my CV even explicitly states "Do not contact me with regards to any role which I have not directly applied for unless I have given you explicit permission to do so. Doubly so if you contact me with regards to a role which has nothing to do with my skillset and job history."

*seethes*

Goddamn scum.

I agree with this devilishly handsome, intelligent, witty and spectacularly well-endowed fellow.

this ALWAYS happens to me - if I'm testing the water, I'll set my CV to public on monster and wait for calls. I put as the title "PHP Web Application Developer Southampton + 25 miles only" and I get calls for London, Birmingham, Manchester, Cornwall.

A lot of them are total morons, but you can't blame them for trying when you see how much an appointment actually makes their company. I'd like 10% of that for setting up an interview!

The worst is when they're like "I know it says no .NET, but have you considered C#.NET?"

This one was for the midlands.

Recruitment consultant, oddly enough...

I've always wondered how these places make money when allot of the time there recruiting more recruiters in a circle jerk like fashion. My girlfriend worked for computer futures for 4 months, one of the supposed better "elite" recruitment company's. Now whilst there seemed to be people there making allot of money, she and the other 4 people they hired at the same time all left within 6 months.

I use my cheap PAYG sim card for any agency calls, and for any calls where i want to decide if i want to reply or not.

Recruitment consultants are a necessary evil unfortunately, so its best to just find a way to make the experience tolerable, and on your terms.

For what its worth, the consultants dont generally read through your cv - they have systems which scan for keywords and then you get calls based on those. So your disclaimer probably does no more than make you look un-approachable ;)

Looking at an interesting job now, have asked for an application form.

Never used an agency.

Application form? Public sector?

I hate them :/ Always take me hours to do...Fretting over words and trying to make everything appear perfect for the role.

Much prefer sending my CV and a covering letter.

Another example of agency ineptitude. Remember that girl with the strange name I mentioned last week? Well another agency, WITHOUT ASKING ME, put an 18 month old version of my CV to the employer for the same role.

WTF?!

I much prefer to send my CV to a few 'good' agencies than put it up for every muppet to see on the likes of Monster etc.
Make sure your agent wants to meet you, as that shows they're much more professional and you'll have a good rapport with them. Dealing with a few select agencies gives much better results - with much less stress.
