So some of you probably remember me fixing up the Honda Accord Aerodeck the gf crashed in to the house. Well she crashed it again this time into another car at a junction two days after I scrapped my spares car which had the bits on that could have repaired it this time.... So I give up new car time. £1500-£2000 budget

Need/Want

Decent MPG as do 20k a year and profits are damaged by poor MPG...
Estate or very large hatch
Leather/Cruise/Toys Desired
New GF

That's it really. doesn't need to handle, dont really care about insurance but want something that's reasonably cheap to run.

My shortlist is:

Xantia HDI Exclusive Hatch/Estate
C5 HDI SX or Exclusive Estate
High Spec Mondeo Hatch/Estate
Mitsubishi Galant Estate (would have to be the v6 with LPG)

Can't really see any better options. The Accord did 25mpg so would be hoping for a DERV that will do 45 ideally or a nice LPG conversion. Prestige brand would be nice but I don't think it is sensible given the budget and low running cost criteria. Feeling deflated by the gf wrecking my car again but kind of excited by the prospect of a new motor that does not drink me out of house and home. One problem with the Xantia option which is my preffered choice is that the HDI does not have cruise control, ever.

Well since it's going to mostly be her cash paying for it ignoring her volvo hatred might not be the best idea. Also the constant whineing about the car if she does not like it aint worth it either. It's ok posting your hardline views on an internet forum but I have to live with her on a day to day basis!!!;) Besides if she doesn't behave soon I'm going for the Penski choice and getting a Citroen XM Estate....:p I am honestly at my wits end. Normally she drives to an acceptable standard and I've previously been happy to trust her in whatever I drive but she's just had a spate of dappy incidents......

I wouldn't bother with a volvo if she hits your house you know whats gonna come off worse.... clearly an mx5 is what you need ;) failing that the mondeo estate is the one i'd pick.

Already got an MX5 mate. She drives that to work normally and remarkably hasn't killed that yet in the 15k she has driven it. Why she can not crash that but destroys my Japanse tank I have no idea. She always blames the size of it but that is complete bull of course.....:(

Did she pay for your cars+house damages?

If not then who cares if she pays, Get a Volvo:p

Failing that get a Hilux or a LandCruiser.

yes to be fair she has paid for previous damage and this time she is paying for 2/3rds of the new vehicle. Any chance of some on topic posts guys? I understand your curiosity but I need to source a decent new vehicle fast.

XM WAGON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bizzaro garlic-munching wierdness, trick suspension and they look ABSURDLY good on full drop.
