Any different from people dressing their kids like glorified prostitutes? Or "chavving" up their children?

It's their choice.

That is awfull, but to be honest people have the right to wear what they wish, its not like they are causing a problem, i like goths as i have never seen them attacking or threatening anyone. Why do a lot of people dislike them?

just read the story..

jesus wept, something needs to be done with these kids..

I really don't understand what's changed since I was their age - In just a decade, kids are now carrying knives and murdering people as if it was the norm. Seriously, what's changed in ten years? And why are they getting slapped on the wrist? They should be named and shamed, regardless of age tbh..

it doesnt even seem like 10 years uvmain, more like 3-5 years, something happened in that time period and everythigns gone to pot!

sounds like my home town

ive been punched and kicked on several occasions because i wear baggys and dark clothes and a beanie

one of my friends was hospitalised a few years back he was jumped by a gang and beaten.

most of us now wear more "normal" clothes now but i still hang around with alternative / goths

its just how down hill our world is now

Indeed, one of the main reasons I moved to Manchester.. Bolton isn't really a place to hang around if you wear alternative clothing. It's sickening that people act violently towards others due to their clothing..

The law should be changed. Their age shouldn't prevent them being named.

I can think of a name for them, it starts with C, ends in T and isn't Coconut.

it's chestnut isn't it? I have a sneaking suspicion that it's chestnut.

Yeah. Was gonna say: I moved here in 1997 and don't remember any of these stories in the news or much about savage youths. Only in the last 3-4 years I've started hearing all this stuff. I'm sure there were people like this 5/10 years ago, but either media coverage of it has gone up, or incidents have gone up (or both).

Awful story :( . I'm not a goth so can only imagine the sort of daily abuse they get - must be terrible.

In London you don't get that much stick. Having said that, the other day some guy spat at me and when I turned to challenge him he threatened to slug me one. Charming.

The inconvenient truth is that a lot of these attacks are as a result of youtube and the proliferation of video phones. Even if this attack wasn't filmed, you can bet that at least one of them will have seen something similar on youtube and decided that beating up a goth would be "well wickid for a laff innit".

They need to be named and shamed! I hate it also when I read stuff like this and it says the accused denies murder. They should be charged with murder and not something like manslaughter, being drunk isn't an excuse.

I lived in bolton for two years at uni and I never got beaten for what I was wearing(mostly alternative/skater stuff) I only got beaten in drunken fights between Uni students & random chavs that believe Students are the cause of all their problems of course we(the Students) kicked their ***** on several occasions before police decided to break up the fights then both sides legged it
