Hi guys, i recently bought some components from OCUK and have to say i am very happy, top quality serivce from ocuk as normal...

anyway here are the specs:

Abit IP35 Pro
OCZ 2GB (2x1GB) PC2-8500C5 1066MHz SLI-Ready Edition Dual Channel DDR2
Tuniq Tower 120-LFB CPU Cooler
Corsair HX 620W ATX2.2 Modular SLI Compliant PSU
Intel Core 2 Quad Pro Q6600 SLACR G0 Stepping...

Anyway here are my temps and volts and the current overclock:

f_overclock32m_1834e75.jpg

Concerning my settings in Abit bios:

DRAM SPEED is 1:1.250
PCI EXPRESS CLOCK 101

CPU CORE VOLTAGE: 1.4525v (gives me 1.37v in windows, Vdroop?)
DDR2 VOLTAGE: 2.200V
CPU VTT 1.2V: 1.27V
MCH 1.25V: 1.37V
ICH 1.05V: 1.15V
ICHIO 1.5V: 1.55V

In cpu feature i have also disabled C1E Function and enabled EIST function

Concerning my RAM settings:

CAS Latency: 5
RAS to CASH DELAY: 5
RAS PRECHARGE: 5
Prechange Delay: 15
Everything else is left to Auto

Umm 3.2ghz seem stable as i ran prime95 for a few hours last night while i slept. I was wondering however if u think its possible to hit 3.3ghz stable as it boots fine into window but fails prime instantly and also when i start unrarrnig rar files it throws up errors all over the shop so its definately not useable in windows.

Any help would be appreciated, thanks a lot guys

TBH i seemed to run into all sorts of problems when overclocking mine when using the 9x multiplier, managed around the same as you are getting but kept getting UT3 crashes.

Changed the multiplier down to 8x and started again and have got to 3.44 (8x430) with *i think* less vcore than you are running but will have to check out that.

Out of curiosity what temps are you getting during Prime?

hitting 59C max, then it drops to 50C then back up again... dont really push any more volts thru this... its never hit the 60's, 65C will be as high as i will go before i stop overclocking

if i change the multiplier down i'll have to change the ram ratio right when i up the fsb right

Thats a nice temperature with that vcore, i get up to around the 68-69 mark.

Anyway, if you were to change the multiplier then you would need to run a higher FSB to get to the same speed as with the 9x multi, therefore you would have to play with the dividers to make sure the rated FSB is running ok for your RAM.

oooo, i think i am getting somewhere finally :), upped the fsb to 368x9 so i am now again at 3.3ghz... however i have also upped the MCH to 1.44v and upped the ichio to 1.65volts...

i heard its not a good idea to set the ich voltatge to high so i left that at 1.15v...

so far so good. prime95 hasnt crashed instantly and its been going for about an hour now.

one happy bunny. if this is stable i am not sure whether to go for another 100mhz... but i am running out of headroom on the ram as its nearing 1066 now. i knwo i could lower the divider but i want the memory bw and the overclock damnit :)...

edit prime still going strong and max temps of 55-56C, i tell u this tuniq 120 is a beast at keeping temps low :).

That is excellent news, some great temps again.

Hope you are able to get to 6-8 hours stable, then you should be home free.

indeed, its been a while since i been overclocking, i forget that u can just "waste" a whole day playing with the thing. its damn addictive.

edit: ok passed 1 hour prime and still going strong, max temps hit 62C :P but now they gone back down to the normal 59C...

there seems to be one hell of a vdroop on these boards, i set 1.4550 for the vcore in the bios and windows is reporting it as 1.38. ah well lower volts the better i guess.

guys whats MCH, ICH, ICHI0 and CPU VTT mean, what am i increasing the volts too and does anyone know the safe max limits?

MCH (Memory Controller Hub) is the northbride and ICHIO is the southbridge. It is only the northbridge you would have to touch, but tbh maybe only a +0.1 is needed and even then it may not be necessary.

I am not that sure of the other 2, have a little google and you find the answer.

Edit\

Have just checked google and just ICH appears to be the chipset also, with the CPU VTT being the FSB voltage.

hi again, just a quick update:

3.4ghz, prime95 stable:

Concerning my settings in Abit bios:

DRAM SPEED is 1:1.250
PCI EXPRESS CLOCK 101

CPU CORE VOLTAGE: 1.4750v (gives me 1.41v in windows, Vdroop?)
DDR2 VOLTAGE: 2.400V
CPU VTT 1.2V: 1.31V
MCH 1.25V: 1.52V
ICH 1.05V: 1.25V
ICHIO 1.5V: 1.65V

temps are 39C idle, 62C full load...

i have some headroom for temps, but gonna run this speed in for a while... quite happy :)... altho still jealous of the people who have hit 3.6ghz... my volts are kinda high so not sure i can reach that.

I know how you feel about the 3.6Ghz lot (damn them :p). When i last did Prime95 for 8 hours the temps were hovering around the 68-70 mark so dont really want to go much higher.

I am more than happy with 3.44GHz also, nice boost over the 2.4 stock speed.
