A welcome delivery......

I don't know if anyone recalls the old Intellimouse Explorer 'feet' problem? (I'm sure it was feet - I can't remember the exact fault). Basically MS would take the serial number of the mouse, and just send out a new one, and not even ask for the old one back. People were getting four or five explorers (when they were £60 odd) for the price of one!

Morality is one of those things that doesn't seem to apply when it's an eeeevil, world dominating corporation that you're screwing over ;)

I would agree with the guys here and keep the ps3 for a month if sony doesnt contact congrats on a new ps3 is it a 60gb or a 40gb if its a 60gb they give you a refurbed version and there worth a bomb now.

I would have kept quite about it, the Sony Ninjas are everwhere, just dont answer the doors to strangers and make sure your windows are closed

Large corporations make enough of people anyway. So when the opportunity is there to take a little back, why the **** not!:D

"Hi There",

Can we have an "open poll" on "this" situation. Just for "fun".

The "morality" question "pops" up every time someone here "gets" a "freebie" like this.

For the record "I" would "return" it. But these things are always "hypothetical" unless it happens to "you".

(btw this is not a "dig" at divaboy, his "freebie", his "morals", his "choice").

dont' worry about have a dig if you want :p I don't feel bad in slightest and it certainly won't be ruining my weekend :p

People will get away with what they can in life. Microsoft should have took precautions to stop that happening with the mice, just like Sony should have took back the borked console - but they didn't, so it's their loss. Serves them all right for not covering their base's. ;)

just ignore all future calls/emails/letters from sony....that will teach them a lesson for sending out free ps3's lol...its in their best interest i say this:p

I don't really think that would stand up in court. From a legal standpoint, one or other of the consoles here would belong to Sony. They can contact the OP to arrange collection at any point with 12 months I think, and the OP would have to provide them.

This works very similarly to a mistake made by a distance seller for instance. As an example : You order 5 sticks of RAM from OcUK, they ship you 50. The goods legally still belong to OcUK, so you couldn't flog them all on eBay. If you did, and six months later they realised their error and contacted you asking for them back, basically you'd be required to pay for them.

Things *would* work slightly differently with Sony not being a retailer, but I think in the eyes of the law the OP has made a 'verbal contract' to return defective goods. What probably wasn't specified was a timeframe for collection...

/edit - What she said \/

I say fair play if you decide to keep quiet about it, consumers get treated like mugs in this country so if a freebie gets delivered to you then that's a bonus.

Definitely don't sell it yet though, I placed an order for a pc build about a year back with a competitor, one of the items was a Asus motherboard for which there were two in my box :D

I kept it for two months and then sold it, about a month after that I had an email from the shop who sent it saying that they want it back or paid for  Luckily I got out of it by writing a letter to them but it just goes to show you are never truly in the clear with blagging a freebie :p

Surely it would be down to the retailer to prove they sent you two items in the box - that would be very difficult to do as it would have been your word against theirs.

Shouldn't they have asked to take away your old one? Just wait a few weeks and see what happens.

when i had a fubared laptop i got one worth 3 times as much off them as compo:) however 2 months later i got a call asking when can they fetch the old one.

i would say over 90% chance they will get the old one back at some point
