Who do you blame for the state of the country?

So we are looking at New Zealand. Less populated, more sense of community, better lifestyle, and about as far away from this awful place as we can get.

Which also has it's own problems and, having spoken to a couple when we were in Dunedin, expect to be treated with a similar contempt by some as the immigrants in this country are.

There are a lot of good things about NZ, but don't miss out some very obvious shortcomings of the country too.

Totally agree, I know, if we go, we will be migrants ourselves, but we are willing to work hard to achieve what we want and to fit in as much as we can. To help ourselves, we are looking at more populated places, like Auckland or Wellington, which have more UK migrants, but it is still going to be hard.

I will have one of what hes drinking please.

We are living in one of the richest, safest and most comfortable countries on the planet. It's easy to moan about things, but compared to less fortunate people in a lot of places in the world we have things easy, really easy. I'll buy you a drink ;), only to remind you that some people don't even have clean water to drink.

I really would avoid Wellington, nice place to visit but would hate to live there. Everywhere is up hill, the one way system is surreal and the weather is appalling.

But you are not comparing like for like. It is easy to say we have it great compared to the 3rd world, but for a comparison to our country, you would have to compare it to modern Europe, USA, Australia & NZ and the like. Compared to other 1st world countries, ours is one of the more expensive countries to live in, with high crime rates.

Who do you blame for the state of the country?

The government; the public; the global economy; multinational corporations.

They've all played their part in the general buggering-up of this country.

Will do :)

That is not bad when you read into it and doesn't affect everyday life.

Anyway, not fully decided on where yet, Oz has too many things that can kill you, so it may be either Canada or NZ...

LOL, I'm an Aussie and I've survived pretty well.

The "deadly creatures" threat is greatly over-exaggerated.

:)

But you have to admit, Australia has the deadliest of pretty much everything out there... :p

oh, and NZ is easier to get into than Australia.

You could just live in NZ for a while til you get your citizenship then you can live in Australia

That is true, I still prefer all I have seen of NZ over Oz.. still got to visit them though, that will be the test..

Or we could just up sticks and leave having never been there. That could be interesting :p

failed multiculturalism and absolute mass migration (and the social problems from the encouraged separation caused + the crowdedness the population boom caused) is what has caused most of the current issues - so the EU + NuLabour

True on both counts. :D

And as jidh007 says, you can enter Australia quite easily once you've obtained NZ citizenship.

:)

Or reading it the other way round, once you have NZ citizenship, you can move to the Cook Islands or somewhere as equally idyllic.

A fair point, but I was just replying to the comment saying what I was drinking to say it's not a bad place to live. We do have problems here and maybe other 1st world countries have it better, but then other 1st world countries have it worse. The USA has very bad homicide rates compared to the UK and some other European countries for example. I'm not saying the UK is perfect at all, but it seems some people take things for granted, myself included and act as if living in the UK is terrible when they are actually quite fortunate to be here, I'm sure the same people that complain so much would complain just as much in any other 1st world country, they all have their own problems too.
