Be Broadband

As far as target SNR? It's at 100 now (%)....is there any way I should go about tweaking this?

I dont think your looking at the right thing, BE generally support 3.5db 6db 9db and 12db profiles, not sure what your looking at as a percentage. its impossible to get 100%SnR.

If your on fastpath then the router wont report any FEC errors as this is part of the interleaved error correction.

Nah I see what it is. I can reduce my target SNR in order to get a higher sync speed at the cost of stability. Currently trying it at 90% which has given me a 15.7mbit sync speed vs 15.1

I'll see if it's stable this evening because usually my SNR drops a bit around 9-11pm

I am using the sky DG834GT flashed with the UberGT firmware BTW.

ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 18624 kbps 1291 kbps
Line Attenuation 27.5 db 10.8 db

Does this mean anything? That's pretty much all the info I got in my router screen.

The speed seems to have gone down and that ling thing seems to have gone up from what it was a day or so ago.

What is line attenuation? Is it SNR?

Cheers,

G

It means what it says, you have 27.5db downstream attenuation and 10.8db upstream attenuation.

Signal to noise ratio is seperate and not listed their, they do kinda go hand in hand as usually attenuation indicates distance from exchange and because of that distance it will be subject to more or less noise (caused by many factors) depending on how far you are from the exchange and the quality of copper (line itself) some have aluminum cables (mine does).

Usually when you have high attenuation you will need a higher SnR to overcome that noise.

Yours is very respectable sped for the attenuation and about what I would expect. You will be fine using BE's standard SnR of 6db up and down. Higher will just lower your speed and lower will just cause your bebox to retransmit packets as there will be more errors although it will report a higher sync speed. Appearences are deceptive.

:)

How's my line stats please? Currently on BT 2meg but moving to Be.

I'm assuming Line Attenuation is better the lower and the Noise Margin (SNR) the higher?

Thanks

I have a line attenuation of 20db down and 10.8 up and my line syncs at 21215 down and 1300 up, i'm also on fastpath, only took about 20 mins to change once I put a ticket in to. Be* have been fabulous since I moved to them from BT, cost less and 3 times faster without any restrictions unlike BT.

Be is getting activated at my exchange this June, im currently using the Linksys WAG354G, should this work alright? Dont really mind switching to the BeBox though.

Also, im sure its been asked a ton before, but is it better to go with Be or O2? I know that O2 own Be now (i think?), but Be have the Unlimited package with 24mb for £18 a month, whereas O2's is £20 for 20mb.

I currently get around 2.5mb from my exchange with ADSL24. What kinda difference am i likely to see? I live 3.19km for the exchange as the crow flies. I know its near impossible to tell because of the other things that can hinder the speed, but if anyone was getting the same speeds as me and went to Be could give me an indication of what to expect, that would be great.

o2 is 24mb too but they say 20 as the majority of people will get that if thet live near the exchange! if your lucky to get more that 20 then u will get that!

I gained about 1000kbps down and ~300kbps up switching from Annex A to Annex M :p

From the BeBox:
Downstream Upstream
Margin [dB] : 3.5 2.0
Attenuation [dB] : 36.5 17.0
OutputPower [dBm] : 19.0 13.0

Intrinsic/Actual Bandwidth %
Upstream : 102
Downstream : 80

Available Bandwidth Cells/s Kbit/s
Downstream : 35136 14898
Upstream : 3882 1646

Default profile, interleaving enabled and all.

Code:
ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 8128 kbps 448 kbps
Line Attenuation 25 db 6.5 db
Noise Margin 10 db 22 db

My current stats with ADSL24, from reading around it would suggest I could potentially achieve decent speeds with Be, am I right?

ill be joining you loverley lot in april when Be* get LLU rights to my town :)

This is my stats with Ukfsn

Got activated this afternoon, very pleased with the speed.

Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]: 1,321 / 20,859
Line Attenuation (Up/Down) [dB]: 3.5 / 9.0
SN Margin (Up/Down) [dB]: 7.0 / 6.5

Tech support were great as I didnt have a clue how to set it up, wanted to use my old router but it demanded a username/password which BE dont use so im on the (huge) BE box.
