Reading lopez's threads always gives me inspiration that you can have lots of fun without spending a lot! Thought i'd hit ph classifieds to see what the potential was and I got a flashback of my childhood, MK2 Cav, retrotastic!

Anyone else see the potential?!

My dad had one just like that on an E plate, but it was white and an auto as the company was American-owned at the time and they only wanted to buy cars yanks could drive.

i actually really like the Mk3 car SRi's. only the saloon ones though.... :)

with a set of big rims, destickered and a little boot lip spoiler they looked sweet! :)

Always thought the Mk2 SRi looked very smart. Red, white and black are the best colours.

We had an A reg 1.6 Estate, which was not especially nice.

Would be an interesting one to ponder, always wanted an old skool cav/nova tidied up and would be a great opportunity to learn how to sort out bodywork (school of dad!).

My dad used to have them as company cars, always remember them being nice at the time. Remember him coming home one day with the passenger side looking like normal, and the drivers side totally mashed after he hit a telegraph pole :) Think his company didn't like him after that as they gave him a dirty old diesel on as a replacement. Also really remember the little pop out things you coul dput cassette tapes into :)

Now, one of those mk2 Calibres that are pretty rare would be cracking :) http://www.mk2cav.com/smf/index.php?page=8

My first few years of company cars were made up of Mk2 and Mk3 Cavs and they were all pretty awful things. I had a Mk2 SRi and a Mk3 SRi and they were OK'ish back then, but the Mk3 1.6L I had was just awful, even it was my first ever new car!

Dad had a MK2 1.8 GLS when I passed my test. Wasn't a bad car to knock around it til I bought my own.

Great car, the Mk2 Cavalier.

Well, actually....fairly terrible car, as standard. But you can forgive that given the age and the cheapness involved in getting a half-decent one. And as for potential - virtually any GM engine will fit in that shell with varying degrees of work (right up to a BBC, in fact). Add a decent stance, a decent paintjob, a small amount of beefing up of the underpinnings, and you'll end up with something that's seriously good fun.

i had a gold colour 1.8 CDi like the CDi above as my first car, wasnt bad in 1993. i've not seen one on the road for years, probably all rotted away by now
