Hey all, me again! After deciding the Orbit II had beaten me, it'll be going back tomorrow morning, its a damn damn shame, its an amazing piece of kit, but sadly we just wern't meant to be! :(

So, I just called O2 about returning it, all good and changing to an N95 8GB Black (Went to a few O2 stores today and had a fiddle with a few, and this really took my fancy after a play)

Sadly at 600 mins/1000 texts/unlimited data bolt on @ £35 a month, they saif that i'll have to either pay £100 or go for a £45/month tariff which wasn't lovely! £100 for the phone, sorry, no, not paying that as I got the Orbit II for free (And I can't afford it :D) £45 a month is just too much for me for a phone tariff, sorry! Ok she says, £45 a month tariff, with a £10 discount each month, and the phone for free, ok, that works! 1200 mins and 1000 texts w/ unlimited data for £35 a month, sure, that works for me Mrs! :)

So i'm just looking for feedback into what apps to get readied & primed for the N95's arrival (Should be thursday or friday) and just wondered if there's anything worth getting in advance?

The only worrying things i've heard is that the GPS isn't as speedy as GPS Units or some other phones (Although that could be rumours? :D) and the guy in the O2 said the battery died within a day which I took as again, negative exxageration, due to no one really mentioning much about terrible N95 8GB batteries!

Thanks all! :)

I'd like to get some recommended apps for mine too.

Opera mini for sure but any others?

People say you get a couple of days from the new N95, the original would be nearer a day. And it seems like the GPS isn't wonderful on it

The GPS is fine long as you have the lastest firmware on it. Do a search for it on here theres a big thread about it somewhere with all the best add ons etc

I was hoping the GPS would be good enough. I'm yet to try it on mine, just going on some people's comments on here

theres a much better and more advance version of RotateMe, but you have to sign it, its called RockNScroll which does much more then jst rotate, basically think of the Wii Remote, thats what it can do.

Gmail
Fring - IM Client
Google Maps - Faster than the inbuilt Maps but needs connection so it cost
Resco PhotoViewer - someone recommend this to me on this forum, way better than the in built gallary and much faster
Skype - For Skype calls

imo, Opera Mini aint as good as the in built web broweser it already provides, other than that, thats all thats worth getting

edit: signing jst means you got to "author" the programme ie rotateme with symbian so you can use it on the phone, kinda like licensing

Thanks for the suggestions. After my attempt at installing Nokia maps 2.0 beta BSOD'ed my PC i'll leave any more playing till tomorrow but I'm looking forward to a proper play around with the phone and all it can do

EmTube or MobiTubia - Clients for accessing YouTube.
Lightsaber :D
Google Maps
ActiveNotes - Much better than the default Notes app. Can insert, images, videos, sounds etc.
Skype
Google Mail client
Calcium - Calculator app. Much better and faster to use.
Frozen Bubble - Decent free game
Internet Radio - stream stations via the net. Make sure you have a decent data plan!

The Nokia Beta Labs website has some decent applications. Nokia Maps 2.0 beta is a considerable improvement and Share Online 3.0 is pretty good. Allows you to upload photo's and videos to your Ovi account and then share it to others to view.

Some welcome suggestions here, thanks

Both RotateMe and Frozen bubble gave me the signing error

So to get these apps working I have to do all this?

Also, where do I install these apps? Phone memory i presume, not mass memory

You can't even sign them following that - SymbianSigned blocked Offline Signing for those without a PublisherID (which costs $200/yr).

That's homo. So unless I pay £100 I can't use some of these apps then? I realise the main commercial ones will be fine but just I really like the look of RotateMe

Actually, just done a quick google. Samir, who makes RotateMe, is apparently shortly going to release a version that can be signed with SymbianSigned's Online Signing tool (i.e. it will use an unrestricted testing UID). This info was posted about 4 days ago, but still no sign yet!

if you do a Google and a bit patient you can easily sign everything yourself. I think there's even a stronger hint on a thread in this forum if you do a search:o
