McCanns going too far?

You probably thought it was in the best interest of your child and that would be taken into account.

The McCanns were never on any Child Protection lists and were probably exemplary parents.
Certainly nothing has come out to say otherwise which would normally happen amongst neighbours.
They did what 1000s of holiday makers do and thought their sleeping children would be OK 200 yards away.
I don't condone their actions because my children virtually stayed within my sight until they started high school.
What the McCanns did was stupid and they'll have to live with it for the rest of their lives.
Lets hope that other parents have now learnt a valuable lesson.

Persistent neglect.

If you feel so strongly about it then start a campaign but until then rules are rules, laws are laws.

Iwould guess there are lots of parents not on any register that neglect their children.

They did what 1000s of holiday makers do and thought their sleeping children would be OK 200 yards away.

Just heard someone in the office next door to me talking about this. It sounded like it was getting quite heated and ended with a lady making this statement.

"I cannot and will not believe the McCanns had anything to do with her abduction. They are Doctors!!!"

Theres a major difference between the chav parents who leave their kids in at night while they go boozing and clubbing to the McCanns who were on a relaxing holiday in what they thought was a safe environment sitting about 200 yards away.

So they didn't go clubbing, they still went out boozing and left their kids. Just becasue they are middle class doctors doesn't mean jack.

You make it sound like its ok for middle class or well off couples to do this but not chavs.

That's because you want to read it that way. Can you not tell the difference between going to a tapas meal 200 yards away from an apartment on holiday to going down the boozer and then to a club and getting totally lashed up every weekend?

I guess I'm from an era different from a lot of the people here, being in my mid 30s, but I don't think they did anything especially bad. My parents would leave me and my brother while going out for a meal nearby on holiday, popping back at short intervals to check we were both ok. I couldn't ask for more loving hardworking parents than I had (and still have), especially when comparing them to most parents these days.

Exactly the same.
Most of my holidays as a young child were at Butlins/Pontins and it was accepted to leave your kids in the chalets with a sign outside telling would be paedos that there was a child asleep.
Everybody would listen out for each others kids and then an announcement would come over "Kid crying in chalet 102".

My parents used to leave me and my siblings asleep in our cabins while they had dinner or drinks on the ferries over to Sweden.
