I got a diamondback blue 3g coming start of next week. Its the best optical i think razer do as all the rest are crappy lazers.

Anyhow it seems like a good mouse from reviews etc im just wondering what ppl thought of it that have it. Also what settings are good as im wondering which settings to use when i get it i mean my current one is good but its 400 or 800dpi res and lately i got sick of how slow it took even on max pointer speed to get from left to the right of desktop screen. I can play well with it in fps games and can aim good enough, im just wondering what benefits on desktop and gaming is gained from 1600dpi res and is aiming harder cos the mouse moves too fast or what?

So strange you should mention these, I just got mine through the post a few hours ago. The old Diamondbacks are 1600dpi (what I was replacing), these bad boys are 1800dpi.

It's pretty much identical to the original (mine became faulty), I love them.
With the on the fly sensitivity, you can just flip it to whatever feels comfortable, and it's not just two or three different states. It's works on a scale from 1-10 (in 0.5 increments), so you can get the speed perfect. I would suggest turning sensitivity in game options for all your games down, then turning the sensitivity up on the mouse. The in game method is dodgy, as it has to kind of skip a pixel to speed your mouse up. So if you do it this way, you never "skip" a pixel, meaning you get smoother movements than most people (very noticeable while sniping long distances).

If you've never tried a Razer before you may be a little apprehensive about its light and slender properties, but it doesn't take long to see why they would do this. It works flawlessly on any surface too. Really I mean any, I just tried it on my hairy face without a hitch!

Oh yeah they are 1800dpi aint they lol.

Hmm so turn sensativity down then turn it up per game? Ok ill try that when it arrives. Is there a profile thing that does it per game. Obviously profiles are no good if u switch to sniper lol as it needs a new setting so can it do multiple 1 game settings so 1 for sniper mode and 1 for smg for instance and is it switchable profiles within game?

Also im curious as to what ppl use the side buttons for, im not really sure what to bind them to yet.

I use the left side buttons in FPS's for 'switch to grenade' and 'switch to primary weapon' in Source, 'frag grenade' and 'stun grenade' in COD4, 'switch to primary weapon' and 'switch to secondary weapon' in TF2

What's wrong with laser mice?

They suck @ anything above average speed?
Only positive is their sensitivity and the ammount of surfaces it works on; its speed & accuracy @ speed sucks however, it's worse than on a cheap 5 quid optical.

Personally: Side buttons to forward / back in explorers/ windows... ( don't understand why u would do anything else than this).
And personally in game I use the side buttons to crouch and prone, this is only coz I got used to that though, just do something with them you don't want to search for on your kb in games.

Hmm always think of the spelling lazer when i think of a laser lol i duno why. :p

Hmm i guess i could bind somethig like f8 for rope when doing worms and one for nanas :p

About fps probably crouch and nades cos im always needing em and hate using the keyboard for em. Apart from worms and fps games is there any other ideas for side buttons for other types of games?

diamondback is a good mouse :) nice sensitivity range and feel to it. With the increased dpi sens compared to your old mouse, I would say that aiming certainly is not harder, I would say easier, because the mouse feels more responsive with the higher dpi. You just have to balance out the in-game sens <-> mouse sens ratio till you are happy.

Personally I would go for the deathadder > diamondback if you want a razer optical, or perhaps wait for the boomslang CE, which is shaping up rather nicely and sounding as though it can live up to the expectations of the original when it comes to gaming.

I am assuming you are basing your opinion on lasers based on personal experience, I have the Lachesis for example, and quite frankly is the best razer mouse I have used to date and I have been through several razer varients (boomslang ball > diamondback > krait > deathadder > lachesis).

Best mouse of all time - the mighty intellimouse explorer !

Hope you enjoy your new mouse :)
