Went a little mad in Meadowhall today. (one for the watch fans)

lol - small world, I saw your post on the watch forum, never dreamed it was an OcUKer!!

I'm 'monkeypants' over there and a Colt Quartz just like yours is next on my list. This is what I have on now:

It is a small world JKD, never been a fan of Rolexes but that green bezel is superb. Wear it with pride.

I generally agree with this, but in this case it's a quartz!
Well, I know, but it appears to be a special quartz! Prob not my style but then I wouldn't buy a massive humdinger of a watch like that anyway through being female...!

One day I wouldn't mind a new ladies' Omega Seamaster.

The Tissot I bought on Friday is a quartz - could have spent another £30 or so and ordered a mechanical automatic version online - but ehn, I wanted it there and then or I'd never have got it. Plus, I can keep my Omega as the special mechanical one...

...aw. now wishing I'd done just that. Nevermind!

For uber special watches it is nice to go automatic or handwind. But for an everyday wearer I really do like to have quartz as it will likely last for ever, and take a heap of abuse.

I fancy one of those Colts as the battery lasts 8 years, so when the case is all worn you can send it in to Breitling and have it serviced in 8 years time and it comes back like new (I have a 13 year old Breitling that was serviced last year - it's like I just bought it!) You don't get that with your standard G-shock!!

And mmm there goes the "willy waving" argument again - it isn't really, it's an interest some people have, and choose to spend money on. If we all liked the same stuff, boring World, yada yada...

Psychologically flash cars, big houses, expensive handbags and watches are bought by the purchaser to make them feel superior to there fellow man/woman.

If you have a genuine interest in watches (or anything) you would have a collection and maybe some rare or antique items (like you) rather that some (semi) mass produced watch who has the only redeeming feature of being expensive.

And that would be why I do have a collection of many and varied watches. I couldn't care less how much they cost (although I'd rather they were cheaper in fact) . My cheapest was only about 60 quid. My missus hates it but it's fun to have a change!!

Absolute nonsense.

YOU may want things to make YOU feel better than the next man, but a lot of people like nice things because, simply put, they are nice.

Nice quality things are nice to own and we all know it; our tastes my be different but we can all respect quality.

I'd like to be able to save for a nice Omega soon, have been told by so many people including old watchsmiths how good they are - better than Rolex they reckon'.

Had some money burning in my pocket today, went to Meadowhall and they have a few nice jewelers. I have always been an Omega fan, but I have been drawn to Breitlings recently. So I came away with this beauty.

Breitling Colt II thermally compensated quartz

you should have spent that money on a better pc

I've always found Breitlings to look awseome in person (I guess like most watches, but they seem to have more of a wow-factor in the flesh.)

It's a nice watch - certainly not an excessive amount of money to pay for something like that, congrats and enjoy.

I disagree, and I certainly don't want to buy anything if its only purpose is to make me feel superior. I buy things because I either need them or they make my life better/happier.

I cannot see the need (even if I was rich) to spend over a thousand pounds on a watch.

How does someone buying an expensive watch that they REALLY want not make them happier? Does anyone NEED to spend 10k on a car? 2k on a PC? etc etc.
