What has happened to PC games in shops

I went into my local stores yesterday, to only spend the first 3/5 minutes of my time trying to find the PC section. They have walls full of shelfs with the lastest 360 and PS3 games in all 3 stores. But finding the PC secton involved walking around the shop of couple of times, there wasnt even a sign saying "PC GAMES" displayed above the shelfs in the small secton pushed away into the corner which contained a few PC games.
Even the DS and PSP displays where larger than the PC section! What is going off.
The PC is the Benchmark of the lastest and greatest games, yet going into a large retailer would make you think otherwise.

noticed the same thing in my local woolys walls full of crappy same samey console games and the pc games at the back of the shop away from the customers :(

There's a top 10 PC games section in my locale and that's it, haha, 10 pc games out on display, tucked neatly away in the corner of the shop.

They usually have all the decent new releases in the chart, sometimes I buy there, sometimes online.

I haven't bought a PC game in a shop now for the best part of 10years I think, I would imagine that most serious gamers these days buys them online.

It's pretty evenly spread out between each platforms at the games store I go into. The PC normally has a good couple of columns of wall space for new releases and a a few rows filled with older 2 for £25 deals etc. Wouldn't buy new PC games from a store though since their normally much cheaper online :p

i havent bought any PC games on disc since the release of HL2
steam is all i need for pc gaming, and with more companys starting to sell their games on the service it can only get better

I almost always buy games online now :)

Don't think I've bought any games in a shop for ages. I normally buy them on disks (I don't go for downloading games much unless they are free), the prices of online shops are normally a lot better than normal shops anyway.
Also if it's a new game I normally pre-order it online.

I do notice the prices on steam are often more expensive than buying disks from shops tho?

I usually buy everything online, got a few classics via download sites / steam, which is great aso they're all usually £5-10.

Console games is where the money is at now Nintendo have introduced a stupid amount of people to casual novelty gaming.

Noticed the PC section was dwindling 8 years ago. PC are and always will be niche. Wont be long before all game shops are gone anyway, cant see how they can compete with online sales nowadays.

u say but them online.where is the best place to buy them from and can u put them to disc.?what happens when u need to reformat, will u loose them then.

i went round looking for the WOW Add-On, and like you say, even in an independent game shop they had no wall amrkings for PC games :/

With steam you can re download the game as many times as you like on as many pc's as you like, over however long you like.

Other wise you can order them from online shops like a certain jersey store, and generally save at least 20% on the shop price.

People still buy pc games  ;)

I havn't bought a pc game from a shop in years either. All my games come from steam. But i think a lot of this forum use the internet for their console games also. You just know you are going to get a better deal without even having to check the high street.

:)
