Hi there

Sorry for starting a new thread, but there are no recent ones about this so hopefully my question can be answered an the nit can die a death and sink into the recess of Motors.

I seem to remember it not having a front plate. Did you/he get any stick for this? Is there a law that says you need to have one?

That's it really :/ thanks.

I'm sure your supposed to have one, but when you have something quite unique the police would probably let you off or you just take the fine.

I know a lot of people carry it in the car with them to try the old "It fell off officer" line. :D

That was a beast of a car... I must have stood there for 10 minutes drooling at it when I visited OCUK a while ago :D

I didn't have one on the front of the Scoob for ages and never once got pulled for it, as soon as I fitted a small one they noticed and pulled me for it.

I ran the RX7 without one on the front atall, and same story as the Scoob, I never got pulled for it. They just don't seem to notice, even when I had been following a police car, or one was stopped at lights opposite me.

Used to love listening to that monster start-up in the tunnel.

I remember when I went along to OCuk for the first time seeing that in the flesh made me do bad things in my undies.. absolutley epic looking machine.

Thats why Spie made him get rid,

Unfortunately the customers experiancing the same effects as you , had began to form a small man fluid based speedhump..

I never used to have one on the front of the Elise. Never got pulled.

I then switched to a small plate. Never got pulled.

But you may get unlucky one day and drive past a bored copper...

What is the worst penalty for not having a front numberplate? and also a smaller one?

Points afaik and a fine.

AFAIK you only get fined for not having a plate atall, whereas a small/incorectly spaced plate carries points aswell as a fine.

So basically you are better off not having one atall

What is a Q plate?

Means that the car has no traceable history, so it is issued with a plate to say that. I think it's for some sort of temporary import thing too.

I think its actually means 'Questionable'

from here...

the DVLA backs it up... http://www.dvla.gov.uk/media/pdf/leaflets/displayofnumberplates.pdf

The law states that,

You must not alter, rearrange or misrepresent the letters or numbers
Characters must not be moved from one group to the other (e.g. A242 ABC must not be displayed as A242A BC).
Offences may result in any or all of the following:

A fine of up to £1,000
The registration mark may be WITHDRAWN
The vehicle may FAIL the MOT test
but you are correct in that if you have a small plate you may as well not bother at all....
