Sterilise parents on benefits, says Torys

A councillor is facing calls to resign after he said parents on benefits should be sterilised to stop them having more than one child.

John Ward, a Conservative member of Medway Council in Kent, made the comments during a discussion about the hunt for the schoolgirl Shannon Matthews.

Perfectly sensible social precaution for the longterm lazy. I've been advocating it for the criminal and the idle for years. They multiply you see, like bacteria.

Sterilisation sounds a bit drastic, but it's not a bad idea to limit benefits after one child.

Anyway... As a Tory, I'd say that this is silly.
Kick the immigrants/asylum seekers out or sterilise them upon entry. That sounds more Tory to me

stupid idea.
We need proper sex ed not just sensational rubbish.

Combined with easy, free and confidential contraception for all ages. COmbined with a much lower rate of benefits and forced jobs.

I totally agree with this. Although realistically, I can see people would argue with human rights that they don't have to work.

The sponges need sterilising, simple. But offer them 500 quid to make it look a good idea, it'll save us a fortune in future child benefit and income support.

This is excessive, but I think that the benefit system needs to be changed to discourage people having more children if they're out of work. Maybe they should pay benefit based on the number of children you had when you lasted worked.

Or, once you register for benefits, you will NOT be eligible for any benefits for child support after 9 months.

Once they're earning a suffient amount they can afford to get it reversed. Do i have to think of everything here!

Why would they call for him to resign, and why would he be sorry? It might be a bit ott but it would make the sponging scum think twice (or more likely once as it would be their first time).

I've always thought you should get 6months maximum. To try and find a job you like after that you do what ever you can. Even if your fully qualified and come from a 100k job. If you can't find a similar job after 6months you should have to take anything, like stacking shelves.

A bit on the extreme side but something does need to be done. An example from the school my wife teaches in, jobless mother and father with 10 daughters and who openly admit they'll keep churning out children until they have a son. Their net contribution to society is pretty much nil but it can already be seen in the daughters that they're going to continue this mass breeding lifestyle with two of them having already had kids.

There are currently no drawbacks to this lifestyle for them so it'll continue for a long time to come.
