Just saw on sky news a report of seal hunting in canada, see a man running over the ice whacking a seal over the head, once, twice, its still alive and mouth is open crying.. third time whacked over the head it goes down.. straight after on the ice the guy gets a knife out and starts skinning the seal while its tail is still moving.

The boats decks are filled with blood and see conveyor belts where the skinned bodies of the seals. Absolutely sickening, Canada should be ashamed of themselves..

Its bad to say.. but those 4 men that got killed in the boats.. I kinda think of what goes around comes around..

I kind of wonder, in a world where we are able to kill animals humanely to harvest their resources, why we still have to resort to the rather hamfisted method of clubbing seals to kill them....it seems a bit brutal and archaic. Is there a particular reason for it?

Massive brain trauma causes spasms and twitches for some time after death, especially if the skull is forced into the brain, the seal probably wasn't alive after the second hit.

Anyway where do you think the meat in your halal curry comes from?

You can't farm them ,and shoving them all in a truck to be hauled off to slaughter house, probably wouldn't be any better and cause some health problems at the slaughter house.

What 4 men, and yes it makes you sound like a git saying that.

Meh, I guess. This is going to sound very barbaric and heartless on my part but surely there's a more 'efficient' way of hunting them though? Like, shooting them or something?

Bullets cost money, a club is reusable, and it's safer for the people working there, not to have people shooting the ice your standing on.

in my halal curry? What u on.. What makes u assume i eat halal meat?

Its a nasty way to kill an animal. We treat chickens for the most part terribly while they are alive but at least they get killed quickly and theres no doubt about the method.. The idea of taking a metal pole and bashing the **** out of the animal is something outta the middle ages.

unless you never eat take away curry then you've eaten halal meat, almost all curry places are halal.

Don;t we electrocute cattle though till their stunned then ram a metal bolt through their skull? modern day club.

Chickens are just decapitated aren't they, or are they electrocuted?

how the hell do you run after and club a dolphin?

Also how come your complaining about Canada when Russia has been doing this on a much larger scale for ages?

A Friends of the Earth member stopped me in Winchester high street on Saturday and asked if I was going on holidays so he could lecture me about CO2. I told him that I was going clubbing in Nunavut. He asked if it was in Ibiza :|.

Anyway, how is battering a seal around the head with a club any different to battering a fish around the head with a priest after you have spent 15 minutes dragging it through the water with a hook in it's mouth? Is the difference that baby seals are cute and fish aren't? That's usually the logic behind this sort of crap.

:( Twisted ***** nice to see some karma though, shame it was only four what goes around comes around as you said !

battering a seal on the head is a lot different than whacking a fish on the head.

for a start a seal is a mammal while a fish is a fish. it is the same as whaling in my book and as despicable as the people that cut of shark fins and then leave the shark (i know sharks are fish) to die.

oh ill catch a fish and whack it on the head then i will gut it and eat it yet i cant see my self doing that to a whale or a seal....

if your gonna kill something make sure you don't waste any of it :)

A seal is a mammal. There is also still debate as to whether fish feel pain, where mammals most certainly do (and killing seals is completely unneccesary).

Imagine if it was a dog rather than a seal, would you still be so nonchalant?

I think its disgusting full stop, no logic can justify doing cruel stuff like that. I'm sure Ive seen that video before and I wish I hadn't.
As it states: 42% of killed seals examined were found to have minimal or no fractures, suggesting a high probability that these seals were conscious when skinned.

I smell hippie... *sniffs*.

Their country, their tradition. If that's how they want to do it then fine. None of our business to get all upset over those fuzzy wikkle seals. If it were clubbing the carp out of hyenas or illegals then no one would really care. Just because whales and seals are cute, people decide to get all worked up. It's really not our place to say whether it's archaic, cruel or barbaric.
