Weekend Special - XFX GeForce 8800 GTX 768MB Extreme Edition @ £149.99+VAT (£176.24)

It's a gamble tbh, if you don't want to see cards sold cheaper than you bought them, you should just buy used or not buy in the first place. Always a risk it'll happen, just look at what happened to DDR2 prices over the last year.

Indeed. I paid some huge figure for my crucial 10th anni...

and to add insult to injury, it's not even being used atm - needs some hot RMA action

Would it be utterly pointless to upgrade from 8800GT to 8800GTX?

Real tempted

ps. how are the fans on this card, loud or quiet?

my BFG GT is loud as helllll!
temps ~80-90 on load

In any other game than Crysis, yes it probably would be, unless you have a very high resolution. You should upgrade when the next generation comes out.

Damn that looks tempting. But i dunno really if there is much point coming from a 8800GTS 320mb. Not enough intensive PC Games to warrant the purchase. Amazing deal though.

If your screen is capable of more than 1280x1024 then I'd get one. If not then yeah, there is no point in moving.

Oh yea i forgot about the resolution. I only have a 17" monitor so i can only do 1280x1024 :( Haven't played many PC Games for ages (due to the lack of decent ones), so ill wait anyway until the next gen cards.

You're absolutely perfect at that resolution with that card :). Only thing is that when you go to upgrade you will need a new screen also otherwise your next card could be wasted.

Hey Nymins - I have nearly the same specs and am in two minds - 2160 o/c to 3GHz, GA-965P-DS3 board and PNY 8800GTS 320 (o/c to 600/990). I play at 1650x1080 / 22", mainly Armed Assault, and so I think a leap to GTX (8800 flavour) is worth it at that res.

Question is whether my Jeantech 450W PSU is up to it - I doubt it but any comments welcome.

Shame i brought the OCUk one last week for 220 quid and got sent this one instead with slower clocks mines 575mhz 7 days on ive lost £70 quid on a card yet again and its less than 7 days old..

Nice to see OCUK drop all these prices after i asked last week if there would be one, i was told not for a few months,, shame they couldnt let valued customers no prior, id been holding on months for a GTX since november actualy when i got my 8800GT all i could afford at the time, And now they go and do this:(

I expect to loose money on stuff but 7 days on my cards worthless this just takes the mick at my expense.

Im baffled. I thought the OCUK cards are clocked at 575MHz? so which brand exactly did you buy and what did you get sent?

Anyway you are way overreacting to the volatility of prices imo and sounding rather spoilt too. £220 for a GTX is hardly a rip off, and to say your card is now worthless is ludicrous.

If you are not happy send it back, you have 7 WORKING days to do so if you wish. Thats my understanding of the DSR.

I've run an overclocked q6600 and 8800GTX on a tagan 580 watt psu. I'd imagine your 450 would be ok (although it would be at the lower end of recommended specs) but first i'd want to know the exact model number as knowing the 12v rail performance would be very useful.

I've not used one of the Jeantech PSU's before but I think they are pretty decent. If they would run a GTX however I've not got a clue.

Your resolution wants, no, demands a new gfx card :D. The 320mb GTS is held back due to memory limitations as all you need to look at is the 640mb results when comparing the two cards. Your CPU idea is decent as that is what I done. I don't play 3dmark06 :p and I don't do video editing. I encode the odd tv show for a m8 but it's a rarity. So far the CPU is great and I've managed 3.5Ghz with it. I just can't be bothered doing the 8 hour prime at 3.5ghz as I'm happy at 3.2Ghz.

Another option could be the 8800GTS 512mb version as that is perfect for 1680x1050 and is also lighter on the PSU but you'd still maybe need to upgrade that PSU. Wait for someone else's take on the PSU though as I don't know enough to give you good advice.

All the OcUK GTXs are 575mhz afaik. Mine is. I bought one before Christmas for £220. It was a good deal then and still is now.

Less than £180 for a oc'd gtx is excellent btw. It'd be rude not to buy one!

The upgrade should give you a considerable performance boost. But the PSU would worry me. GPU's never use as much wattage as they state in the requirements like for this card "500w minimum recommended". The card will never get up to 500w, but it basically means that for the average computer including hard drives, cd drives etc 500w is needed to run it all safely.

So i would think about upgrading your PSU to something like the Corsair 520w. That should be more than enough. I myself use a 500w PSU, so i would be pushing it for the GTX, but there are many people who run a GTX on 500w and even lower like yourself. But to be on the safe side, I would upgrade.

I ordered a OCUK and got sent a XFX i just thought the OCuk maybe the XFX i remember something happening with them bringing XFX cards back and covering them, and thats what this is.

Sorry maybe i was a bit ****** at first seeing it and went a little over the top.
But if i sold you something for £220 pounds after you asked if there would be a price drop within the next few weeks. So you buy next week you see a freind who's also brought the exact same item, but i got it from same person for £70 less ?

The cards second hand now meaning with the current prices ill be lucky if i got more than £100 for it.

Im not spoilt and to me 70 pound is a lot of cash. I only got it last week as i was told on here buy a GTX while you can cause stocks going to really drop off now they stopped making them.

I payed £220 for something now 7 days later is now £70 quid less and worth no more than £100, Yes my freind im slightly annoyed. I feel as if I've
been took for a mug
