Hi all,

Just wondering what you lot would consider to be a 'reasonable price' for a backstreet (ie, not main dealer) garage to change the oil & filter on my Peugeot 306 HDi.

Thanks
Rich

Well iirc, one garage was doing it for £30 inc Castrol Edge oil.

Can't remember which one though! lol.

or spend £1 extra and sit back and have a coffee. I normally do my own, but they messy n take a wee while with just a trolley jack etc. Think this time its just going into the garage.

you could get oil + filter from motorfactors for £20 and do it yourself
I could, but I don't have the time or the inclination to, which is why I'm prepared to pay someone to do it!

I've been quoted £37, including parts & labour.

if you do decide to get it done at a garage, and its not too far away. I'd recommend sticking in some flushing agent prior to taking the car down just to try and shift some extra crud :)

Fair enough, might cancel that then and just claim my free MOT test. There's a National in town so I'll give them a call in the morning.

Thanks for the pointers though - if my life wasn't so hectic at the moment I'd be more than happy to roll up my sleeves and do it myself! :)

I spent £110 on mine :(

£65 oil, £15 filter £30 to do (but this included finding and fixing an oil leak).

Free MOT?

Something tells me there will be something that needs doing. :p

Oh and that National advert says FROM £21. So that will be £21 for a daihatsu copen. Your car will more than probably be more.

Don't go to the National in Yeovil. They're a bunch of idiots, and can't follow basic instructions :/

We took our car for a £20 odd quid oil change at National in Huddersfield came back leaking oil out the filter (had been screwed on at an angle!) and they re used the sump plug washer so it was leaking oil out of there too further inspection they had threaded it just for good measure.

Took it back and complained and they said they didn't see anything wrong and its leaking oil out of somewhere else and wouldn't tell or show me where (lies!)

Personally I would pay the extra.

Bare in mind most places get the young lad to do this job so make damn sure you check underneath the motor for leaks after driving the car for just 1 mile. Many a horror story about where the filter hasn't been tightened & all oil is lost resulting in catastrophe & the owner explaining to the AA man that he has only just had an Oil/Filter change so it can't be that.

no, you really couldn't, well not unless you want some nice 20w50 mineral oil.
I could supply an oil filter and 10w40 semi synth for £13.60inc VAT, or 5w30 full synth for £16.60inc VAT. Thats obviously not Castrol or Mobil oil, but its ACDelco (made by Vauxhall I believe). Tbh ive not checked whether either of those oils are suitable for that car, but they are a hell of a lot better than 20w50.
