Hi guys. On Xbox LIVE I have just tried to change from gold membership where I pay £4.99 a month to silver as I just do not use the account.

However I went to membership options and tried to cancel, but I do not get the option to. All I get is the option to change to 3 monthly payment or 12 monthly payment plan.

Have Microsoft tied me into something for life??!?!?!

How the hell so I get out of this?

Any help, information or advice will be welcome.

I think you have to ring them up to cancel :(

You are kidding!?!?!?!

So you can upgrade online, but I have to call them to cancel. I will not even start to go on about how that sucks cause it speaks for itself.

Do you know the number?

Yup it's a scam.
It really is. The lengths you have to go to in order to cancel are ridiculous. I tried ringing them not to cancel, but just to say don't renew it on a certain credit card. I was never confident the guy knew what I was trying to say, and of course come renewal they charged the card I told them not to.

i canceled mine had to ring them up explaing i want to go back to silver and my cards removed from the system. had to wait upto 48hrs for some1 to call me back to sort it out. they did call back which was a bonus as i didnt think they would. :D

I really want to know what the bonus content on the 360 is!

If it turns out it is naff I will prolly just cancel and get the PS3 version as most of my mates have sold their 360's.

Would suck if your kid went in and cancelled it for you, only for you to be charged a full fee to pay again.
Phoning them up to do stuff involving credit cards isn't surprising.

Picking up a phone is a well hard thing to do, I mean you have to press buttons and stuff.

I hear these days you even have to hold the phone while you are talking, if that's not effort I don't know what is.

GTA4 is the only reason why I haven't dropped to Silver too. I had no idea you had to ring up lol

You don't if you get points cards, it automatically reverts to Silver. If you use a credit card you do as you're signed onto a rolling contract.

People make a mountain out of a molehill. You'd be expected to phone your mobile phone network provider for the exact same thing. As I said, it's really not that unusual.

Disagree there.

Why can you change the billing period from monthly to every 3 months, but you can't cancel.

With the cell network example you mentioned, you also can't change the billing pace on the phone itself. It's insane that you can sign up online, change how often you are billed, but can NOT cancel online.

I have heard stories of people having difficulty canceling too.

And yes, I own a PS3 and a 360. But to me, this is just an obvious negative to the 360 (and yes, there are negatives to both consoles before someone jumps on me saying something silly like "oh, so the PS3 is perfect" and I am not saying that its a major thing. I just think its pretty poor that you can do everything else to do with your bill, but you can't simply cancel the subscription.
