I was going to post this in motors, but I considered the GD section might be more appropriate - today's Grand Prix spurred me on to get a bit more of this done - its the Tamiya 1:20 kit with a few aftermarket cables and decals to make it a little more pleasing to the eye close up.

Still a lot more to do but this is around 2 months work - This will be a replica of the car Driven by Ayrton Senna in 1990, and my favorite car livery ever.

Ahh model builder eh? That is looking very nice. I'm building an F1 car at the moment as well.. I thought I'd try and challange myself. So got a Fujimi 1/20 126C2 in progress with a Model Factory Hiro Transkit to fix all the areas the Fujimi forgot, weren't bothered about or just didn't know..

Quite a challange, where do you get your model supplies?

Thanks peeps - Kieran - this is my first car build as I normally do aircraft, not much gets finished these days though !

Jon - not very fast i'm afraid, although during some of the fiddley stages it has come close to going very quickly indeed ;)

Tecman - most of the bits I've purchased from hiroboy - Steve runs a great shop and his colour matched paints are the dogs danglies, very easy to airbrush too - although the laquer is Halford's own ;)

cheers all

J

I was going to recommend hiroboy.com as he sells a lot of stuff for automotive modellers.

His zero paints are good, but the paint is pre-thinned and goes off in the bottle too quickly. He reckons you can just re-thin them, yet to try it.

Since you're mostly an aircraft builder, you've done an excellent job so far, CF decal work is very nice. Not to hijack your thread, but this is some of my recent models -

Rear wing on this one is wonky lol need to fix that.

Seeing as you'd shared, I'd share as well..

Not really a very complete kit then

Well they are, it just depends on how far you want to take the detail. Getting the look of real CF and all the wires, and connectors, paint etc aren't in the kit, but if you just glued it as it was in the box, then you could build one for under £20..!!

I've spent upwards of £350 on a build before now. Once you get into detailing, the sky is the limit...

Oh and those are 'man boobs'. Trust you lot, that is a Tamiya Mercedes CLK Sportswear, only raced once, very nice looking car, to some.

So do they make full kits with everything in for £150ish? A mate of mine went to the Williams factory recently and got a lego F1 car for £20ish and was told the really detailed scale replica ones cost £150-200ish.

Tecman - that CLK looks amazing, definately a kit on my to-do list , lovely decal work too.

Ben - as Techman says it really is a question of how far you want to go with accuracy, the Tamiya kit is designed to create a very decent replica out of the box, but injection moulded plastic is only capable of so much detail, there really is no limit to the amount of detail out there.

Monkey Puzzle - yes there are kits out there with everything you need for £100 plus, but this still excludes paint and tools which can get very expensive.
