STALKER mods

Rather annoyed at the moment, the game arrived this morning and have just installed it and patched to 1.0005 but it crashes on the very first part of the game - before i've even gone outdoors!

I've tried it vanilla, I've tried the 1.0004 patch and I've also changed drivers back to the cat 8.1s cos the 8.3's were just unstable generally (they crashed the pc when i was trying to reinstall stalker - wasn't doing anything else!)

Everything's at stock pc wise.

Anyone any ideas ?

I've not used any mods as yet - just want to get the bog standard game going first :(

Even if everything is at stock, sounds like your PC is playing up. Try running orthos and memtest for a while and see if you get any errors.

Not necessarily.

Stalker is still pretty unstable - I recently went back to it after stopping soon after launch as I couldn't get into it at the time . Played it fine for 2 or 3 days then it suddenly became an absolute nightmare, could hardly get through a level or do a level change without it either locking up or BSOD'ing - I might add that's the first time my machine has BSOD'ed in probably 2 years or more so I'd say my rig was pretty stable having played through things like HL2 ep2/bioshock/oblivion and other system hogs like EQ2 or Tabula Rasa .

Gave up trying to play stalker a day or two ago and have gone back to finish Crysis and guess what no instabilities or lock ups on that game.

Its a pity really as having given Stalker a 2nd chance its actually quite a good game and I really do want to continue playing it - just can't stand having to reboot every 30 minutes or even when I just go to save my progress in case it crashes.
 
Thats a shame. Theres at least 2 levels in Crysis which are completely useless and after a certain point it becomes very hit and miss game play wise. Got stuck twice in scenery too which meant reloading a save.

Ran memtest while i was out this morning and the following was reported :



Just the one error it seems - is that likely to be the cause of my instability issues ?

I might just go and buy 2 x 2gb GSkill while its relatively cheap still - only got xp home so 32bit but even so 3 gig of ram would be better than two - saw stalker using upwards of 1.2gigs a few times ... leaving me with about 30/40mb ram left!

Am gunna try the 3GB enabler thingy first though see if that helps ...
 
AMK 1.4 with AMK-EN 2.0.67-RC0 has been released.

This is the official release of release candidate of amk-en 2.0, a mainly translation add-on for AMK Mod 1.4 rev.22.
For the moment only a full install of the pack is available, later I might do a small install of add-on for AMK 1.4.
What is included:
Pretty much everything is translated. Bar translation is not included yet as it is buggy, some dialogs in some locations might not be as good, but so far it's only Military, Yantar and Bar.
Dynamic news are about 90% translated.
Everything else is translated.

More frequent dynamic news by AMK-EN Team.

I recommend you all to start a new game. First of all it will guarantee you'll have as least bugs as possible. Second, some important info which was untranslated earlier and which was in the beginning of the game is now translated.
Your previous save games should work, but starting a new game is just my recommendation.

As this is a Release Candidate WE WANT ANY BUGREPORTS TO DO WITH THE TRANSLATION OR CRASHES THAT HAVEN'T HAPPENED BEFORE.

I urge anyone who HASN'T played AMK 1.4 to download it immediately. This is how PC games SHOULD be. Prepare for the best fun you'll ever have without removing your trousers!
 
Is the 56 mb file above just the translation, and if so which version of AMK exactly do you install it over?

It's the complete thing :D Just unzip it to the /Prog Files/THQ/STALKER/gamedata (making a 'gamedata' folder if there wasn't one already) and set the second line of 'fsgame.ltx' to:
$game_data$ = true| true| $fs_root$| gamedata\

That by itself points to something more than the game. Could well be the drivers by themselves but that's quite unlikely...

One memory error isn't necc. a definite cause of your problems but it's quite likely. What voltage are you running it at? Might be able to up it to solve your problems...
 
Is this AMK solely a translation mod?

I quite like the fact they all speak Ukrainian (I assume thats what they are speaking anyway). If they all speak English you may as well be playing in a deserted Birmingham. :)

AMK makes a lot of changes to Stalker, better AI, better realism, sleeping, more enemies.
A small patch for the latest one which I mentioned above is out here also.

If it's rated for up to 2.0v it's perfectly safe and perfectly within wararnty to stick 2v into it. I presume you've got a case fan or two? If so, should be no problems.

Test it with 2.0v and see how it goes.
 
I've just reinstalled stalker (AGAIN) and haven't patched it or modded it at all, is it worth testing it in this state or should I patch it ?

Am just tempted to lump for the OCZ 4gig kit on TWO @ £49 !
